The New York Times dropped another bombshell: Donald Trump Jr. was told in an email ahead of his meeting with a Kremlin-linked lawyer that material damaging to Hillary Clinton was part of the Russian government’s efforts to help his father win the general election.

New York Times:  “Before arranging a meeting with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer he believed would offer him compromising information about Hillary Clinton, Donald J. Trump Jr. was informed in an email that the material was part of a Russian government effort to aid his father’s candidacy, according to three people with knowledge of the email.”

“The email to the younger Mr. Trump was sent by Rob Goldstone, a publicist and former British tabloid reporter who helped broker the June 2016 meeting. In a statement on Sunday, Mr. Trump acknowledged that he was interested in receiving damaging information about Mrs. Clinton, but gave no indication that he thought the lawyer might have been a Kremlin proxy.”

According to the NY Times, Goldstone’s message “does not elaborate on the wider effort by Moscow to help the Trump campaign.”

This news comes as Trump Jr. has lawyered up with white collar crime attorney Alan Futerfas. He has also represented mobsters (Bonanno, Gambino, Genovese and Colombo) and Gryphon Financial CEO Kenneth Marsh, who was recently sentenced to eight years in prison for defrauding thousands of more than $20 million in a stock fraud scheme.

Futerfas released a statement confirming that an email exists that cites promise of damaging information about Hillary Clinton:

There is no good explanation that could be possibly be given on how meeting with someone connected to the Kremlin to hurt your opponent is correct.  This is a betrayal of our country that we haven’t seen in decades, if ever.
