Donald Trump Will Go Down in History as the Most Despicable US President

Donald Trump will go down in history as the most despicable president we have had in modern American history. He has no sense of history, no sense of dignity and no sense of patriotism.

Trump announced a ban on transgender people serving in the military, saying that the military “cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption” that transgender people in the military “would entail.”

On this day, 69 years ago, President Harry Truman desegregated the military. Trump commemorates the pivotal day in America’s history by instituting a discriminatory policy. What a disgrace!

Trump issued a statement in three tweets:  “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming …victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”

Trump’s ban will be his most polarizing decision since he announced his Muslim ban. But this wasn’t a random move. It was meant to shore up his dwindling base, since his approval rating continues to tumble. This is a step backward for civil rights in this country. It’s also meant to erase the progress and achievements by former President Barack Obama. But it will backfire. It always does.

Everything about Donald Trump and his administration have been a disgrace — from his attack on Mexicans, women, disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski, Muslim ban, attacks on a sitting judge over Trump University fraud case, attacking a Gold Star family, falsely accusing President Obama of wiretapping his phones in Trump Tower, firing FBI Director James Comey over the Russia investigation, attacks on the free press. and the list goes on.  Mr. Trump is a truly vile person who is taking America down a dark road.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle weigh in:

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL), quoted by ABC News: “You ought to treat everybody fairly and you ought to give everybody a chance to serve.”

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ):  “There is no reason to force service members who are able to fight, train, and deploy to leave the military—regardless of their gender identity. We should all be guided by the principle that any American who wants to serve our country and is able to meet the standards should have the opportunity to do so—and should be treated as the patriots they are.”

Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) told the Denver Post: “America needs a military comprised of patriots willing to sacrifice for this country. Any American who is physically and emotionally qualified should be allowed to serve.”
