David Doptis closes his Michigan restaurant supply business after calling two fellow black Detroit Lions fans “ignorant n*ggers” because they did not stand for the national anthem ahead of the game on Sunday, WJBK-TV reports.
Doptis wrote, “You wanna sit down for the national anthem?”“You don’t like out country the get the “f*ck” outtt.” The photo was captioned “ignorant n*ggers.”
Stacey Graham, a season ticket holder, told WXYZ-TV that she sat out the singing of the anthem because she disagreed with the third verse, which is about killing emancipated slaves. The third verse is no longer being used.
Graham told WJBK, “Everybody has an opinion.” She added that Doptis “probably could’ve stuck with, ‘he wishes we would’ve stood,’ and I would’ve been like ‘okay’, but to write that under our picture, no words.”
Doptis initially denied posting the photo and the racist caption. “I didn’t post any pictures, any collages anything,” Doptis said. “I don’t know where that even came from.”
