The Democrats threaten to attach the DREAM Act to every bill until it passes, as Donald Trump’s DACA decision backfires royally. Democrats in the House and Senate announced that if the DREAM Act doesn’t come to the floor for a vote in September, they will attach it to every piece of key legislation until it passes.
Donald Trump kicked the hornet’s nest with his cruel and inhumane DACA decision. He has opened up the immigration reform issue again and it will not benefit the Republican Party. In fact, the Democrats should lead the charge and not back down one iota.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said, “We today are calling on Speaker Ryan and Leader McConnell to immediately put the DREAM Act on the floor for a vote in the House and Senate. We’re ready to pass it. I am confident that if put on the floor, it will garner overwhelming support from both sides of the aisle, but let us say this, I think I speak for the Leader [Nancy Pelosi] as well. If a clean DREAM Act does not come to the floor in September, we’re prepared to attach it to other items this fall until it passes.”

I hope the Democrats play their cards well because Trump handed them a gift. He and his administration are doing everything they can to stop non-white immigration. The policies from this administration are racist and are solely for white America’s benefit. Republicans have chosen a side — Donald Trump and his white nationalists — to their disadvantage. They are telling black and brown Americans that there is no room for us in the party.
According to White House talking points, Donald Trump clearly wants the DREAMers to self-deport out of the country. That’s despite his claims that he “loves” the DREAMers. That’s not how you show love with Attorney General Jeff Sessions basically calling them criminals and “illegal aliens.” Trump may have realized that his stunt backfired because on Tuesday night, he tweeted that he was willing to revisit DACA if Congress couldn’t pass a bill in the next six months.
The reality is that Donald Trump is playing to his shrinking base. A huge majority of Americans do not want the DREAMers to be deported because this is the only country they know and they came to the U.S. through no fault of their own, but accompanied their parents. Most are productive members of society, some of whom have given their lives for this country.
Trump just started a fight that he and the Republican Party can’t win. I have long said elections have consequences. Donald Trump’s racist actions should be a rallying cry for every voter to go to the polls in every election — local and national. We have to take back the House.
