According to rich white dude Mike Ditka there has been “no oppression” in the U.S. “in the last 100 years.” Um, so there was no Jim Crow era, no Ku Klux Klan lynching black people, or sharecroppers. No racism whatsoever. Life was good, right? They’re trying to rewrite history in plain sight.
During an interview by Westwood One’s Jim Grey, Ditka was asked his opinion on NFL players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racism and police brutality. I guess he agrees with Donald Trump calling black NFL players sons of bitches for exercising their First Amendment right.
Ditka said: “I think that you have to be color blind in this country. Have you got to look at a person for what he is and what he stands for. And how he produces. All of a sudden it’s become a big dealing now about oppression. There has been no oppression in the last 100 years that I know of. I don’t care who you are, how much money you make. If you don’t respect our country, then you shouldn’t be in this country playing football. Go to another country and play football. If you can’t respect the flag and the country, then you don’t respect what this is all about. So I would say adios.”
So, the recent deaths of unarmed black men by police officers are just figments of our imagination. Since he’s the leading scholar on race in America, we should take his word for it that there has been no oppression in America in the last 100 years. Give me a break. This dude is in his wealthy white neighborhood in the Chicago area while trying to give his bourgeoisie version of race relations. He’s totally detached from reality.
