Former George W. Bush White House ethics lawyer Richard Painter announces a Minnesota Senate bid as a Democrat, saying, “I’ve tried to salvage the situation with the Republican Party for a long time…We’ve had for decades a departure from fundamental values.”

“Painter, a persistent and frequent critic of President Donald Trump on national cable TV news appearances and on Twitter, is expected to announce his candidacy at a Monday news conference. … [The] seat is up this fall in a special election, and [Tina] Smith has said she intends to run for a full six-year term,” the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Paint is running to fill the seat vacated by Sen. Al Franken. It’s a sad commentary that there is no room for decent and moderate people in Trump’s Republican Party.
