Donald Trump signs an executive order to rescind his policy of separating migrant children from their parents. Um, let me say it again….Donald Trump signed an executive order to rescind his own policy.
The total surrender by Donald Trump and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is embarrassing because they overplayed their hand and got caught.
You will recall Trump and his band of liars claimed that he could not stop the policy and needed Congress to pass legislation to do so. Of course, that was a dirty, barefaced lie.
Of course, Twitter responded as you would expect:
After all the lies, I see no reason to trust Trump or Nielsen to oversee family reunification. We need independent, outside leadership to oversee the process & make sure sufficient resources are allocated to get every last child in US custody back to Its family.

To be clear: this means innocent children have suffered permanent trauma for weeks while the President and his Republican allies lied to the public that this was beyond his control so he wouldn't have to take responsibility. https://t.co/71tPki3jrK

Key: trump ends separation policy. Remember – dhs secy said policy didn’t exist. Cites “zero tolerance” remains. Lack of tolerance is how we got in trouble w/ separation. Justice is about law and fairness. If potus doesn’t get that – doomed to repeat same mistake. #DOYOURJOB

Trump's new executive order is filled with lies, including continuing the willful deception that the family separations are based in law and that they existed under President Obama. pic.twitter.com/hieW3qn4ho

Just as President Trump was signing an executive order to stop the separation of families at the border…
We learned than a 9 month old baby was separated from its parents, at the border, and sent to New York City, according to Mayor @BilldeBlasio

His signing an executive order temporarily ending the reprehensible separations is a prime example. That the “zero tolerance” policy remains intact means the United States now will warehouse thousands of illegal migrant families together in Trump prisons on the southern border.

REPEAT AFTER ME: Trump is signing an executive order because tearing apart families was bad *optics* for the GOP.
They don’t care about the children.
They care about keeping their jobs.
Children REMAIN separated and families will STILL be put in concentration camps.

After mounting pressure, Trump is now saying he will end the separation policy by Executive Order. Two thoughts: 1) I’ll believe that when the camps close and the kids are reunited with families, and 2) wasn’t this a “Democrat law” that he couldn’t do anything about? SMH.

BREAKING: Trump has just signed an Executive Order to keep families together at our Southern border, after lying to the American public for over a weak, saying that Democrats are the ones causing this horrendous mess.
In Other Words, America just defeated the HOSTAGE TAKER!!

Forgive me if I don’t praise @realDonaldTrump for reversing course on his own inhumane policy that never should have been enacted in the first place. The damage has already been done to thousands of children.

“we want to be compassionate” .. Then why did you abuse children? You will forever be remembered as the President who traumatized children.
— Mika Brzezinski (@morningmika) June 20, 2018
THIS IS NOT OVER!
The devil is in the details.
These children have suffered permanent damage. There’s no taking that back.
One father committed suicide after losing a physical struggle to keep them from taking his child.

Deplorables was too nice.
— Zerlina Maxwell (@ZerlinaMaxwell) June 20, 2018
So I’m confused, @realDonaldTrump. You said it was Democrats’ fault that you were ripping children from their parents at the border, and that the law REQUIRED you to do it, but now you’re issuing an executive order saying “never mind.”
Did you lie, or are you just stupid?

Donald Trump and his proxies are incapable of telling the truth. We need a Congress who will stand up to him. pic.twitter.com/nZOiNQs38O
