The long awaited report from the Justice Department’s Inspector General Michael Horowitz finds that James Comey broke procedures in the Hillary Clinton email probe but offered no big bombshells for Donald Trump to run around gloating about. Ooopsie.

The IG found that former FBI Director James Comey “deviated” from DOJ and FBI procedures in handling the probe into Clinton’s emails that has damaged the agencies’ image of impartiality even though he was not motivated by political bias.

Bloomberg reports, “While we did not find that these decisions were the result of political bias on Comey’s part, we nevertheless concluded that by departing so clearly and dramatically from FBI and department norms, the decisions negatively impacted the perception of the FBI and the department as fair administrators of justice.”

In other words, Donald Trump was helped by Comey’s actions and it badly damaged Hillary Clinton’s chances of winning the presidential election, along with Russian interference.

The IG’s report also addressed the text messages retrieved from FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, who had exchanged text messages that were sharply critical of Donald Trump. Strzok was working with Special Counsel Robert Mueller on the Russia investigation, but was removed from the inquiry after the text messages were discovered.

“We did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that improper considerations, including political bias, directly affected the specific investigative actions we reviewed,” Michael Horowitz said in the report. “The conduct by these employees cast a cloud over the entire FBI investigation.” Source: Bloomberg

Donald Trump told NBC’s Lester Holt that he fired Comey because of the Russia investigation after initially claiming it was because of the way he handled the Clinton email probe. The reality is that James Comey broke procedure and it was in Trump’s favor. Comey’s letter to Congress days before the election was just plain wrong. He gave Trump the entire weekend to spin lie after lie after lie about the true meaning of the letter with no push-back from the FBI.
