#BREAKING: Antwan Rayvon James is wanted for the murder of stepfather Detective Joseph Newell in Prince Georges County.

Antwan Rayvon James reportedly shot off-duty Metropolitan Police Department detective Joseph Newell in front of his home, located in the 6700 block of Green Moss Drive in Upper Marlboro, at about 8 p.m. Monday night.

Prince George’s County Police Cpl. Maria McKinney said the shooting was domestic in nature.

Detective Joseph Newell served with the MPD since 1989.

MIT Campus Police Officer Sean Collier Killed During Manhunt for Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus police officer Sean Collier was shot and killed early Friday morning by Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Another officer was critically injured in a shoot-out with the brothers.

Officer Sean Collier was killed in the area of Building 32 (Stata) on the MIT campus. He was responding to a disturbance call when he was shot multiple times. He was ambushed and killed cold blood while sitting in car.

Suspects Tamerlan Tsarnaey and younger brother Dzhokhar then stole a Mercedes-Benz with the driver inside and fled the scene.

They critically wounded another officer during a shootout in Watertown.

Richard Donohue, 33, a three-year-veteran of the department, was last reported to be in surgery at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.

Tamerlan was critically injured in the gunfire exchange and died at Beth Israel Hospital. Source

Officer Sean Collier’s death was disclosed by the police chief. Officer Sean Collier had served with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Department since January 2012 and had previously worked as a civilian employee of the Somerville Police Department, Officer Down Memorial Page reports.

MIT Campus Police Officer Dies After Being Shot Near Building 32, Suspect Still at Large

MIT CAMPUS POLICE OFFICER DIES:  More bad news from Massachusetts as a MIT police officer dies after being shot on campus late Thursday night. The shooting reportedly occurred at about 10:30 p.m. near Building 32 (Stata).

NBC affiliate WHDH said a search for the gunman was underway. An MIT police office was shot and killed, according to the Mass. State Police. The Building 32 area was cordoned off. The university warned students and staff to “stay clear of area until further notice.” Massachusetts State Police was assisting Cambridge and MIT police in the investigation. The search for a suspect is ongoing. S0urce

The campus police officer was reporting to a disturbance call when he was shot multiple times. The shooting comes days after the Boston Marathon twin bombing that left three dead and many injured. The FBI released photographs and a video of the suspects, who appear to be two white males.

The update on the MIT emergency website states:  ”Responding agencies are actively investigating the situation, which remains very fluid at this time.  Police continue to sweep the campus.  Stay indoors and remain inside until further notice.”

UPDATE#1 (04/19/13 1:18 A.M.):  Police were led on a chase into Watertown, where a gunfight and explosives were detonated. Unconfirmed reports, one suspect may have been taken to Beth Israel hospital.

CAMBRIDGE –  Massachusetts State Police and Cambridge Police are investigating a fatal shooting this evening in Cambridge, Middlesex Acting District Attorney MichaelPelgro and Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas announced this evening.

An MIT campus police officer responding to a report of a disturbance in the area ofVasser and Main streets was reportedly shot.  According to authorities, the officer was found evidencing multiple gunshot wounds.  He was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased.

Authorities launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the shooting.

There are no other victims.  No arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing.

Det. Eric Smith has been identified as the police officer shot by a murder suspect during a fatal shooting on the third floor of the Jackson Police Department headquarters in downtown Jackson, Miss. Det. Smith was killed when he was attacked by the suspect inside the interview room. The man disarmed Smith and fatally shot him before he was killed by another officer.

Jackson Police Chief Rebecca Coleman said Thursday afternoon a police officer and a murder suspect died of gunshot wounds at the Jackson Police Department headquarters in downtown Jackson.

Coleman was flanked by Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance, Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis and District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith.

Coleman said officers arrested a murder suspect Thursday afternoon, and that suspect was being interviewed on the third floor. Coleman said later there were reports of shots being fired. The suspect and a police officer were then found dead, Coleman said. Source

Det. Eric Smith is the third law enforcement officer gunned down in the last few days. Kaufman County district attorney Mike McLelland and his wife were found murdered in their Texas home last weekend. Mingo County WV sheriff Eugene Crum was murdered by Tennis Melvin Maynard as he sat in his vehicle eating his lunch. Detective Eric Smith is survived by his wife, who serves with the Jackson Police Department.

UPDATE: The shooter has been identified as Jeremy Powell, 23. He was in the process of being arrested in the murder of Christopher Alexander on Monday. Alexander’s body was found with a stabbing to the neck.

Tennis Melvin Maynard Arrested in Murder of Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum

BREAKING:  Tennis Melvin Maynard, 37, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting death of Mingo County WV Sheriff Eugene Crum. Maynard reported went up to Sheriff Crum and shot him at point blank range.

Tennis Melvin Maynard lives in Delbarton, WV. He was spotted in a car near Delbarton when he was apprehended after a brief chase ensued and he was shot.

Sheriff Eugene Crum, who took office in January, campaigned on ridding Mingo County of its drug problems. Before he became a magistrate, he was the Delbarton Police Department chief. It is not clear if his murder was drug-related, but it is being reported that he aggressively pursued drug dealers.

SHERIFF EUGENE CRUM KILLED:  Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum was killed in a county courthouse shooting in West Virginia Wednesday morning.  According to media reports, Sheriff Eugene Crum was sitting in his vehicle when a male drove up to the parking lot on 3rd Avenue and shot  him at “point blank” range. Eugene Crum assumed the office in January. The suspect was shot and is in police custody.

Sheriff Crum’s murder comes days after Kaufman County district attorney, Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia Woodward McLelland, were found shot to death in their home.

St. Lucie County Sgt. Gary Morales Killed During Traffic Stop, Suspect Arrested

FALLEN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER:  St. Lucie County Sgt. Gary Morales killed while making a traffic stop in the 3200 block of Naylor Terrace Thursday morning.

Sgt. Gary Morales was killed when the suspect exited his vehicle and opened fire, striking him as he sat in his patrol car. Sgt. Morales was pronounced dead at the Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute. The suspect is in police custody.

Sgt. Gary Morales is survived by a wife, children and a brother. He is a native of the Bronx, NY, and is a veteran of the United States Air Force. He served with the St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office for 13 years.

SANTA CRUZ SHOOTING: Sgt. Loren Butch Baker, Det. Elizabeth Butler Killed by Jeremy Goulet

SANTA CRUZ SHOOTING:  Santa Cruz Sgt. Loren Butch Baker and Detective Elizabeth Butler were fatally shot by Jeremy Goulet after they were called to investigate a sexual assault in Santa Cruz Tuesday afternoon.

Suspect Jeremy Goulet, 35, was arrested on Friday after a co-worker at a Santa Cruz coffee shop alleged he went to her house and made inappropriate sexual advances. He was fired the next day. Investigators went to his home as part of a probe into the matter and an altercation ensued, which led to the officers being fired upon.

Jeremy Goulet was convicted in 2008 of peeping at a 22 year old woman who was showering in her condominium in Portland, Ore., and of carrying a concealed weapon, the Oregonian reports. He was placed on probation but after a dispute with his probation officer, he was incarcerated for two years.

Sgt. Loren Butch Baker was a 28-year veteran of the force, while Det. Elizabeth Butler was a 10-year veteran.  This is another horrific tragedy that didn’t have to happen. This comes on the heels of ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner’s shooting rampage that left four people dead, including two police officers.
