Another apparent murder-suicide to report. This time, the Wayne County Sheriff’s office is investigating the deaths of two teens — Ryan Shelby and Raymond Samenki III — inside a Pikeville home Friday evening. According to WITN, Shelby was found unresponsive and slumped over the dining room table with a gunshot wound to the head and Samenki was found unresponsive and lying on the kitchen floor, also with a gunshot wound to the head. Police found a .38 caliber revolver in Samenski’s hand.
Murder-suicide is a common occurrence in today’s society and it is alarming. We have covered several cases of the last three weeks and it cuts across age, race and socioeconomic status. We have seen elderly couples, middle-aged couples, a son killing his mother, a father killing his entire family, a mother killing her child and now two teens. This trend isn’t solely attributable to the recession and tough economic conditions, but due to illness. No matter what one is grappling with, murder-suicide is not the answer.
