Romney Campaign Desperation: Paul Ryan Says Obama Threatens Judeo-Christian Values

The Romney campaign is in desperation mode. Paul Ryan told a group of Evangelical Christians that President Obama’s second term plans threaten Judeo-Christian values. That’s the equivalent of throwing a Hail Mary pass, hoping it will stick. Yeah, people like Pastor Charles Stanley should drink that Kool-Aid fast. I’m sure he could come up with some Scriptures to bolster Ryan’s assertion. Zeke Miller reports, this was “a dramatic charge aimed at the Republican base, and delivered during a conference call that did not appear on his public schedule.” Um, Paul Ryan is trying to paint President Obama as an outsider. The Romney campaign’s race-baiting is so transparent.

In his remarks to what organizers said were tens of thousands of members of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, Ryan said that President Barack Obama’s path for the next four years is a “dangerous” one.

“[It is] a path that compromises those values — those Judeo-Christian values that made us a great nation in the first place,” he said, referring to religious liberty and Obamacare.

On the call, Ryan said he has been “sustained” on the campaign trail by the people he has met who tell him that they are praying for him. “I can’t tell you how important it is to have the prayers of the tens of thousands of people we meet across the country,” Ryan said. Source:  Buzzfeed

The candidates shouldn’t be spouting religion in an election. Lost on Paul Ryan is that he has violated one of the basic charges of the Roman Catholic faith — to take care of the poor. His view is that 30 percent are takers, in keeping with Mitt Romney’s 47 percent of Americans are deadbeats. Never mind the fact that these right wing evangelicals treat women with little regard and spit on our rights. The government has no place in anyone’s personal life and shouldn’t be telling a woman she can’t have an abortion or get contraceptive through her insurance.’ By the way, I am pretty sure people are also praying for President Obama and Joe Biden to win the election.

Paul Ryan to Fox News’ Chris Wallace: “I Don’t Have Time” to Explain How We’ll Pay for Tax Plan

GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is still ducking on answering tough questions, even after he was given an opportunity to finally talk about the details of Mitt Romney’s tax plan. He told Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace that he didn’t have the time to get into the nuts and bolts of the proposal. Um, that’s saying he doesn’t have the answers or he is hiding Mitt Romney’s plan. This comes 36 days to election day and Gov. Chris Christie thinks Mitt Romney will have phenomenal debate on Wednesday that will skyrocket in the polls. Here’s the exchange between Chris Wallace and Paul Ryan:

WALLACE: So how much would it cost?

RYAN: It’s revenue neutral…

WALLACE: No no, I’m just talking about cuts. We’ll get to the deductions, but the cut in tax rates.

RYAN: The cut in tax rates is lowering all Americans’ tax rates by 20 percent.

WALLACE: Right, how much does that cost?

RYAN: It’s revenue neutral.
WALLACE: But I have to point out, you haven’t given me the math.

Ryan: No, but you…well, I don’t have the time. It would take me too long to go through all of the math. But let me say it this way: you can lower tax rates by 20 percent across the board by closing loopholes and still have preferences for the middle class. For things like charitable deductions, for home purchases, for health care. So what we’re saying is, people are going to get lower tax rates. Source:  Think Progress

What if we were to tell Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan we don’t have time to listen to their jive talk about how they plan to turn this country around, while surrounded by former advisers to George W. Bush? Funny, Paul Ryan has been on the ticket for quite some time, but still can’t find time to really level with American voters like you and I, instead dancing around the issue.

Watch Chris Wallace grill Paul Ryan:

Mittastrophe:  Craig Robinson, former political director of the Republican Party of Iowa:  “I hate to say this, but if Ryan wants to run for national office again, he’ll probably have to wash the stench of Romney off of him.” Damn, that’s deep! That’s a stinging rebuke of the Romney campaign and it is interesting to note that Paul Ryan seems to be distancing himself from Mitt Romney — kinda.

Politico:  Though Ryan had already decided to distance himself from the floundering Romney campaign, he now feels totally uninhibited. Reportedly, he has been marching around his campaign bus, saying things like, “If Stench calls, take a message” and “Tell Stench I’m having finger sandwiches with Peggy Noonan and will text him later.”

Even before the stench article appeared, there was a strong sign that Ryan was freeing himself from the grips of the Romney campaign. It began after his disastrous appearance on Friday before AARP in New Orleans. Ryan delivered his remarks in the style dictated by his Romney handlers: Stand behind the lectern, read the speech as written and don’t stray from the script.

Paul Ryan seems to have upset the Romney campaign by going off script at a townhall meeting at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and used a PowerPoint presentation to talk about the debt. Well, it seems that Mr. Campbell Brown, Dan Senor, couldn’t control him, to which Ryan reportedly said:  “Let Ryan be Ryan and let the Stench be the Stench.” Um, one problem, Paul Ryan’s political career may be over if Mitt Romney doesn’t win the presidential election because no-one will ever see past the “rolling calamity” he was a part of. I thought John McCain’s campaign was a hot mess, but we now realize why Mitt Romney has been running for elected office for so long. From the looks of things, when a candidate is saying that the polls, many of which have usually been right for years, are wrong, that pretty much means he or she knows the end of the road is near.

Did Paul Ryan Also Lie About Being a Mountaineer, Climbing 40 ‘Fourteeners’ in Colorado?

Did Paul Ryan Also Lie About Being a Moutaineer, Climbing 40 ‘Fourteeners’ in Colorado? (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Did Mitt Romney’s ‘bold’ vice presidential pick Paul Ryan lie about climbing mountains too? You see, he was just forced to make an embarrassing U-turn over his three-hour marathon claims and now questions are being asked about his claim to be a prolific mountain climber.

He told a Janesville newspaper that he had scaled ‘close to 40′ of Colorado’s 54 ‘fourteeners’ mountains, with each being at least 14,000 feet tall. I feel another U-turn coming people. He made the claim three years ago, but since we have discovered that Paul Ryan is a ‘prolific’ liar, doubts have surfaced.

Still: this claim makes me even more suspicious than his marathon answer did. I know nothing about mountain climbing, so give my views appropriate weight. But to see what people who do have experience think, you might check out the current comments at the climbers’ site SuperTopoOne explains the reason for his skepticism:

The 54 peaks are scattered throughout remote parts of Colorado and you have to visit out-of-the-way little towns and valleys to tick the list, towns and valleys that you would never visit otherwise….

To have climbed forty and not be a resident means that you would have had to devote entire summers to climbing fourteeners, in essence becoming a “lifestyle” hiker/scrambler. I doubt Ryan had the time or dedication to fourteeners to take the required time out from his political career. Even if you did four a summer, that would be ten summers devoted to traveling to Colorado for the purpose of high altitude hiking. Even if you live here and can drive to the trail heads, forty is a huge commitment of time and energy. Source

The moral of the story is that if Paul Ryan can lie about the little and insignificant things, imagine what wonders he work on the big and significant issues such as Medicare and Medicaid reform?

Another Paul Ryan Lie, Now Says He Didn’t Say President Obama Responsible for Janesville Plant Closure

MANCHESTER, NH - AUGUST 20: Republican vice p...

Another Paul Ryan Lie, Now Says He Didn’t Say President Obama Responsible for Janesville Plant Closure. (Image credit: Getty Images via @daylife)

Paul Ryan is now backtracking from his accusation that President Obama was to be blamed for an auto plant closing down in his hometown of Janesville, Wisc. During an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show, he said he wasn’t suggesting that President Obama was to be blamed for the plant closure, but that he should be held to “account for his broken promises” to reopen the plant. Um, liar, liar pants on fire. Paul Ryan is proving to be a damn liar. Not a week goes by when we don’t get a whopper from Mitt Romney’s sidekick.

“What they are trying to suggest is that I said Barack Obama was responsible for the plant shutdown in Janesville. That is not what I was saying; read the speech. What I was saying is the president ought to be held to account for his broken promises. After the plant was shut down, he said he would lead efforts to restore the plant. It’s still idle,” said Ryan on NBC’s “Today.” Source

It’s also ironic that he is flunking President Obama’s performance as “incomplete,” since he is a member of a highly unpopular Congress, with an approval rating of 15%. Seems to me Paul Ryan’s performance is also an incomplete. He has lied many times and has voted against measures that would help the poor and the middle class every chance he gets. There’s a funny thing about lies, they catch up with you. This is Mitt Romney’s bold vice presidential pick? Um, Paul Ryan is turning out to be quite a weasel, in every sense of the word. He’s not that policy expert as he fraudulently claims.

Jonathan Chait says Paul Ryan has always been a liar, but this time around, the media, not Politifact, but media outlets such as The Washington Post, are now noticing his penchant for lying:

Ryan seems to have fallen victim to circumstances he didn’t quite foresee. The Romney campaign has spent the last several weeks practically daring the national press corps to call out its lies. Well beyond the usual exaggerations of a national campaign, Romney has built its entire message around two accusations — “you didn’t build that” and “just send them a check” — that are obviously false. A day before Ryan’s speech, a Romney adviser told reporters, “We’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers.” The media that had spent the last two and a half years nuzzling gently in Ryan’s lap had been prodded with sharp sticks and reacted in the predictable fashion, though probably not predictable to Ryan himself.

The thing about Ryan is that he has always resided in a counter-factual universe. He is a product of the hermetically sealed right-wing subculture. Many of the facts taken for granted by mainstream economists have never penetrated his brain. Ryan burst onto the national scene with a dense, fact-laden attack on the financing of Obama’s health-care bill that was essentially a series of hallucinations, pseudo-facts cooked up and recirculated by conservative apparatchiks who didn’t know what they were talking about ordidn’t care. His big-think speeches reflect the influence of fact-free conservatives and collapse under scrutiny.

For him to compare President Obama to Jimmy Carter, in terms of the high unemployment and foreclosure rates, is just laughable. President Obama inherited a tough economy. No-one can deny that and with the constant stonewalling by the Republicans, led by Tea Party darling Paul Ryan, they sabotaged him every step of the way. Let’s not forget we were fighting two wars, one totally uncalled for. Four years ago the economy was falling apart, with no-one knowing where the bottom to this quagmire was.

Daily Mail: Paul Ryan’s Black Ex-Girlfriend Deneeta Pope is an Ex-Convict, Served Five Months for Wire Fraud

Now that we know Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan dated a black woman, her thrashing in the media has started, even though she didn’t tell the media about her relationship with the congressman. Well, the Daily Mail is reporting that Deneeta Pope is an ex-convict, who served five months in federal prison for wire fraud. You see, Paul Ryan won’t be the recipient of collateral damage from this, Deneeta Pope will be.

She served five months in prison after defrauding her employer Ernst & Young out of $77,000 in 1999, according to the federal Bureau of Prisons. Ms Pope admitted claiming funds from work to attend an educational course which did not exist.

The former cheerleader was indicted by a grand jury in November 1999, and two years later pleaded guilty to faking receipts and expense claims in order to steal tens of thousands of dollars. She would apparently transfer the fraudulently obtained funds to a secret bank account in Chicago, where she currently lives. Following her conviction, Ms Pope was sentenced to five months in federal prison, and was released in May 2002. I have to ask, how is this Paul Ryan’s fault? Deneeta Pope served her time and paid her debt to society. She deserves a second chance and should be left alone.

More Paul Ryan Lies? Runners World Can’t Verify He Ran Marathon in Under Three Hours

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)

More Paul Ryan lies? This time Runners World magazine said it can’t verify Mitt Romney’s ‘bold’ vice presidential pick, Paul Ryan’s claim that he ran a marathon in less than three hours.

Scott Douglas wrote  that “Runner’s World  has been unable to find any marathon results by Ryan. Requests for more information from Ryan’s Washington and Wisconsin offices, and from the Romney-Paul campaign, have so far gone unanswered.” Runners World also writes, a sub-three-hour race would make Ryan the fastest marathoner to be on a national ticket.

Silence is an admission of yet another embarrassing lie from Paul Ryan. Clint Eastwood isn’t the only train wreck Mitt Romney could end up with on his hands.

GOP Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan’s Black Former Girlfriend Identified as Deneeta Pope

Paul Ryan ex-girlfriend Deneeta Pope

Paul Ryan’s Black Former Girlfriend Identified as Deneeta Pope (Photo credit: Daily Mail)

Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan’s black former girlfriend has been identified as Deneeta Pope, the Daily Mail reports. Hurrah, Mitt Romney will now get more black votes. Not. Deneeta Pope is a Barack Obama supporter. She was a cheerleader while he was in a fraternity at Miami University in Ohio.

The relationship and the backlash he suffered from his so-called friends were a formative experience in the political evolution of the Republican vice-presidential pick who described himself as a ‘big, big fan’ of Martin Luther King and is a staunch advocate of civil rights.

Neither of them gave up their love of sports. Ryan has become synonymous with the oddly titled P90X workout programme, while Pope featured in an online video for The Wall Street Journal in 2010 promoting a full-body workout called the Bar Method. Source

Wow, if Paul Ryan went through all this, then I would think he would be more inclined to reach out to the black community. This is proof that having a black or Asian girlfriend doesn’t make you more sensitive to the needs of that particular group. To be honest, Paul Ryan doesn’t embody a thing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. talked about, in terms of helping the poor and the least among us.

Gallup Poll: One in Four Americans Have No Opinion On Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan

A recent Gallup poll found one in four Americans don’t have an opinion on Mitt Romney’s ‘bold’ vice presidential pick Paul Ryan, who has proven to be a brazen liar.

Gallup Poll:   Americans have mixed views of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, who will be confirmed as the GOP’s vice presidential nominee on Wednesday night, with 38% saying their opinion is favorable, and 36% saying it is unfavorable. About a quarter of Americans say they have never heard of Ryan or don’t know enough about him to have an opinion.

Fox News’ Sally Kohn: Paul Ryan’s Speech Set World Record for Greatest Number of Blatant Lies and Misrepresentations

Romney Ryan Plan Cat Food

Fox News’ Sally Kohn: Paul Ryan’s Speech Set World Record for Greatest Number of Blatant Lies and Misrepresentations (Photo credit: DonkeyHotey)

Paul Ryan:  liar, liar pants on fire! When a Fox News columnist can criticize Paul Ryan for his deceitful Republican convention speech, you know there’s a problem.  No decent person wants to go down in history as a liar, but Paul Ryan has won the gold medal for a single speech that was full of blatant lies. Here’s Sally Kohn’s take on Paul Ryan’s speech:

On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was  Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.

The good news is that the Romney-Ryan campaign has likely created dozens of new jobs among the legions of additional fact checkers that media outlets are rushing to hire to sift through the mountain of cow dung that flowed from Ryan’s mouth. Said fact checkers have already condemned certain arguments that Ryan still irresponsibly repeated.

Fact: While Ryan tried to pin the downgrade of the United States’ credit rating on spending under President Obama, the credit rating was actually downgraded because Republicans threatened not to raise the debt ceiling.

Fact: While Ryan blamed President Obama for the shut down of a GM plant in Janesville, Wisconsin, the plant was actually closed under President George W. Bush. Ryan actually asked for federal spending to save the plant, while Romney has criticized the auto industry bailout that President Obama ultimately enacted to prevent other plants from closing.

Fact: Though Ryan insisted that President Obama wants to give all the credit for private sector success to government, that isn’t what the president said. Period.

Fact: Though Paul Ryan accused President Obama of taking $716 billion out of Medicare, the fact is that that amount was savings in Medicare reimbursement rates (which, incidentally, save Medicare recipients out-of-pocket costs, too) and Ryan himself embraced these savings in his budget plan.

Elections should be about competing based on your record in the past and your vision for the future, not competing to see who can get away with the most lies and distortions without voters noticing or bother to care. Both parties should hold themselves to that standard. Republicans should be ashamed that there was even one misrepresentation in Ryan’s speech but sadly, there were many.

This is the garbage Republicans are calling a spectacular speech where Paul Ryan hit a home run. Really? He said he wants to have a debate on the issues he laid out, saying he will win. Well, I would urge VP Joe Biden to do his homework because he will have a plethora of lies and half-truths to throw back at Paul Ryan from his stance on abortion rights, to his voting record in a highly unpopular Congress to his controversial budget plan. Can’t wait to see the “fireworks” fly because someone is going to get burned.

You see,  Paul Ryan quoted his father at the end of his speech, who used to say to him, “”Son. You have a choice: You can be part of the problem, or you can be part of the solution.” Well, Paul Ryan isn’t a part of the solution. He is a part of the problem in terms of what ails this country, having been a long-time member of a Congress with a 15 percent approval rating. He tried to deceive voters outright last night and while trying to distract voters from the truth about his own record, he may have singlehandedly caused Mitt Romney more problems as a running mate than he needs. Do you honestly think President Obama and the Democrats are going to take the so-called laceration he got from Paul Ryan lying down? Hell to the no.
