Rev. Jesse Jackson tells Occupy London protesters Jesus, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela were occupiers. I am no fan of Jesse Jackson and it’s laughable to even call on Jesus’ name in this movement. I can accept Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s name being invoked on some levels. Even Nelson Mandela, but Jesus Christ? That’s Jesse Jackson being Jesse Jackson.
“Jesus was an Occupier, born under a death warrant, a Jew by religion, born in poverty under Roman occupation,” Jackson told the 200-person crowd in front of St. Paul’s Cathedral Thursday, MSNBC reported. ”Gandhi was an Occupier, Martin Luther King was an Occupier, [Nelson] Mandela was an Occupier.”
To be fair, this is ludicrous. Nelson Mandela fought against apartheid, where black South Africans were treated like sh*t, much like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s fight in the U.S. against racial injustice. Has Rev. Jackson stopped to wonder why more blacks aren’t jumping on the Occupy Wall Street movement? This isn’t about black and white, it’s about one’s perception of what’s right or wrong economically speaking.
