Here we go again, every time President Obama and his family take a vacation, the right wing freaks out. President Obama cancels safari trip in Tanzania because of the cost of security, during his trip to Africa later this month. Of course, he won’t be applauded for it, instead,  someone chose to leak that snipers will be on hand to shoot any lions or other wild animals that come near the First Couple.

Any journey by the president, such as one scheduled next week for Northern Ireland and Germany, is an immense and costly logistical challenge. But the trip to Africa is complicated by a confluence of factors that could make it one of the most expensive of Obama’s tenure, according to people familiar with the planning.

The first family is making back-to-back stops from June 26 to July 3 in three countries where U.S. officials are providing nearly all the resources, rather than depending heavily on local police forces, military authorities or hospitals for assistance.

The president and first lady had also planned to take a Tanzanian safari as part of the trip, which would have required the president’s special counterassault team to carry sniper rifles with high-caliber rounds that could neutralize cheetahs, lions or other animals if they became a threat, according to the planning document.

But officials said Thursday that the safari had been canceled in favor of a trip to Robben Island off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, where Nelson Mandela was held as a political prisoner.

The right wing hypocrisy is glaring. Not a word from anyone when former presidents George W. Bush, George H. W. Bush or Ronald Reagan went on vacation but they freak out when President Obama makes a move. Bill Clinton and George W. Bush also went to Africa and I can remember hearing any freak-out over those trips. Would President Obama’s critics prefer that he take Delta Airlines on official U.S. business?

Shannon Richardson Arrested in Connection with Ricin-Laced Letters Sent Obama, Bloomberg

Actress Shannon Richardson was arrested in connection with the ricin-laced letters sent to President Obama and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg late last month. It is unclear what charges will be filed against her.

Shannon Richardson, who has appeared on television including as a zombie on “The Walking Dead,” had originally called the FBI claiming her estranged husband was the person who sent a series of letters laced with small amounts of the toxin ricin to Obama, Bloomberg and Bloomberg’s top gun control lobbyist in Washington, D.C.

With the recent wave of snooping ‘scandals’ rocking the Obama Administration, even the New York Times is jumping ship with a ‘scathing’ editorial saying, “the administration has now lost all credibility. Mr. Obama is proving the truism that the executive will use any power it is given and very likely abuse it.” Oh, wait, they quietly walked back the “lost all credibility” phrase and replaced it with “the administration has now lost all credibility on this issue.” No surprise there, but it contains no appending indication as to why it was changed.

…the Obama administration issued the same platitude it has offered every time President Obama has been caught overreaching in the use of his powers: Terrorists are a real menace and you should just trust us to deal with them because we have internal mechanisms (that we are not going to tell you about) to make sure we do not violate your rights.

Those reassurances have never been persuasive — whether on secret warrants to scoop up a news agency’s phone records or secret orders to kill an American suspected of terrorism — especially coming from a president who once promised transparency and accountability.

Essentially, the administration is saying that without any individual suspicion of wrongdoing, the government is allowed to know whom Americans are calling every time they make a phone call, for how long they talk and from where.

This sort of tracking can reveal a lot of personal and intimate information about an individual. To casually permit this surveillance — with the American public having no idea that the executive branch is now exercising this power — fundamentally shifts power between the individual and the state, and it repudiates constitutional principles governing search, seizure and privacy.

Tea Party Hero Judge Roger Vinson Who Struck Down Obamacare, Authorized NSA Verizon Order

The Tea Party seems to have a strange way of popping up into just about every dogfight in Washington D.C. and for all the wrong reasons. Roger Vinson, the same judge who struck down Obamacare as unconstitutional in 2011, signed off on the NSA court order to force Verizon to turn over records of millions of American customers.

Vinson ruled in 2011 that the individual mandate of the Affordable Health Act was unconstitutional. In his decision, Vinson wrote, “Everyone must participate in the food market.””… Under this logic, Congress could [mandate] that every adult purchase and consume wheat bread daily.” His ruling led to Obamacare being appealed to the Supreme Court.

Here’s are Roger Vinson’s signatures:

VERIZON SPYGATE:  The Obama Administration has found itself embroiled in yet another scandal, but this seems to be a throwback to George W. Bush administration and the NSA collecting phone records of Americans, not just those thought to be engaging in terroristic activities. The NSA is collecting phone records of millions of Verizon customers everyday, under a top secret order.  The White House has confirmed this practice and is defending it.  This more than the IRS snooping scandal is more troubling.

The Guardian:  The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an “ongoing, daily basis” to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.

The document shows for the first time that under the Obama administration the communication records of millions of US citizens are being collected indiscriminately and in bulk – regardless of whether they are suspected of any wrongdoing.

The secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (Fisa) granted the order to the FBI on April 25, giving the government unlimited authority to obtain the data for a specified three-month period ending on July 19.

Under the terms of the blanket order, the numbers of both parties on a call are handed over, as is location data, call duration, unique identifiers, and the time and duration of all calls. The contents of the conversation itself are not covered.

The disclosure is likely to reignite longstanding debates in the US over the proper extent of the government’s domestic spying powers.

Under the Bush administration, officials in security agencies had disclosed to reporters the large-scale collection of call records data by the NSA, but this is the first time significant and top-secret documents have revealed the continuation of the practice on a massive scale under President Obama.

This is troubling for Americans and it speaks to the distrust many have of the government as being “Big Brother” snooping on everyone. So much for the land of the free. I do understand to a certain degree the need to monitor some activities since we have been hit by acts of terrorism sporadically and hate groups are on the rise. But where do you draw the line? Gathering the telephone records of millions of Americans who haven’t done anything wrong is just crazy. Why?

U.S. Job Creation Best in Five Years, Right Wing Continues to Attack Obama

As the right wing continue to claim that President Obama is one of the worst presidents in U.S. history, the improving economy continues to make a joke of their claims. Gallup just released data showing that the U.S. has had the best job creation in five years. Of course, the right wing will shrug that off and continue to attack President Obama.

“The Job Creation Index is now much improved from the all-time monthly low of -5 recorded in February and April 2009.”

“The net job creation score is based on 37% of workers telling Gallup that their employer is hiring new people and expanding the size of its workforce, and 15% saying their company is letting people go and reducing the size of its workforce. The percentage “hiring” is the highest since August 2008 and the percentage “letting people go” is the lowest since March 2008.”

Obama Nominates Patricia Ann Millett, Two Others to D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals

BREAKING NEWS:  President Obama nominates Patricia Ann Millett, Cornelia Pillard and Robert Wilkins to serve on the D. C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Of course, these nominations will start another fight with the Republicans.

NY Times:  The president called on Republicans to abandon what he called partisan obstruction of his judicial nominees and approve his nominees quickly.

“This is not about principled opposition. It’s about partisan obstruction,” Mr. Obama said. “What’s happening now is unprecedented. For the good of the American people it has to stop.”

“What I’m doing today is my job,” Mr. Obama said as he announced the nominations. “What I need is the Senate to do its job.”

BREAKING: Ricin-Laced Letter Sent to President Obama Intercepted

BREAKING:  Another ricin-laced letter sent to President Obama was intercepted before reaching the president the U.S. Secret Service confirmed Thursday. This letter was similar tho those sent last week to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the gun control group he backs.

The letter addressed to President Obama was turned over to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force for testing and investigation, Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan said.

It seems that there are some people who really want to see President Obama dead just because they don’t agree with his views. Thanks to the right wingnuts for giving these lunatics a platform to stand on.

ANC: Obamas Shouldn’t Accept Freedom of the City Award, Cape Town Doesn’t Care About Poor

ANC: Obamas Shouldn’t Accept Freedom of the City Award, Cape Town Doesn’t Care About Poor (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Even before President Obama starts his tour of South Africa, there is drama.  The African National Congress (ANC) claims the City of Cape Town doesn’t care about the poor and the Obamas shouldn’t accept Cape Town’s Freedom of the City award on that basis. Well, the Democratic Alliance spokesman Mmusi Maimane shot back saying the ANC’s claims are “baseless.”

On Tuesday morning the Cape Times quoted the African National Congress saying that US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle should not accept Cape Town’s Freedom of the City award.

“To us this is nothing other than a diversion and I think it would be a pity if Obama accepted the award from a city that doesn’t care about the poorest of the poor,” ANC Western Cape secretary Songezo Mjongile told the newspaper.

Maimane said the award would be presented to Obama and his wife during their three-day visit to the African continent at the end of June and beginning of July.

“The facts show that the DA-led city of Cape Town delivers better quality services to more poor people than any other metro in South Africa. The city of Cape Town offers the most comprehensive and generous package of free basic services to indigent residents of any metro in the country. This is a fact.”

He said in the past financial year the city spent 57 percent of its R18 billion budget on service delivery to poor residents.

Sounds like the ANC is in a state of panic. I guess some members in the South African government think they can manipulate President Obama and create an ugly trip for him. In case the ANC hasn’t noticed, the rand has fallen to its lowest level in four years under Jacob Zuma. The economic woes facing the country as a whole should be a much more pressing issue to the ANC than the Obamas accepting an award.

Rush Limbaugh: President Obama and Chris Christie Have “Master-Servant Relationship”

Rush Limbaugh: President Obama and Chris Christie Have “Master-Servant Relationship” (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Rush Limbaugh is attacking New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for doing his job. I will continue to echo the sentiments of former GOP presidential nominee Bob Dole who said the RNC needs to hang a “closed for repairs” sign on its doors because the Republican Party is in total disarray. Limbaugh claims Obama-Christie have a “master-servant relationship.”  Unbelievable. This is the kind of lunacy that will keep a Democrat in the White House.

Rush Limbaugh said on his show Tuesday, “Obama has money. Governor Christie wants the money, Governor Christie needs the money, so the people will be helped.  So Christie praises Obama.”

“It’s a master-servant relationship. That’s exactly the kind of bipartisanship that the Drive-By Media wants. Master-servant. That’s ‘bipartisan.’ That’s what’s going on here. … Master-servant. Master-staff. Don’t take it any further than that, Snerdley. I’m not going on, going there. I’m just telling you. Obama’s got the money; Christie needs the money. Obama wants to walk the beach; that’s what we’re gonna do. Obama wants a photo-op; it’s what we’re gonna do.”

Never mind the fact that Chris Christie is an adult and doing the job he was elected to do. Gee, I wonder what kind of relationship he has with Cumulus? Just saying.
