Sarah Palin: Obama Wants to Return Us to "Days Before the Civil War," Also Known as Slavery for Blacks (Britannica)

Once again former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin shows her ignorance where history is concerned. She appeared on Sean Hannity’s show yesterday to continue his “discussion” from the previous night about another Andrew Breitbart non-story — the video of then-Harvard University student Barack Obama giving his support of former law professor Derrick Bell. Sarah Palin attacked President Obama saying he wants to return to the days “before the Civil War.” Um, during that period of time, blacks were slaves. In fact, had President Obama been living in pre-Civil War America, he would have most likely been a slave, unless he was among the small percentage of freemen. If that was the case, he who would have lived with the fear of being kidnapped and re-enslaved. It’s insulting that she could even suggest President Obama, the nation’s first black president, would be guilty of such a ridiculous assertion. I guess she doesn’t understand what the word antebellum means, particularly where black Americans are concerned.  As usual, Sarah Palin is on the wrong side of history. Her take is sort of like the Paul Revere twist:

Now, it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War had to really start changing America. What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin.

Yeah, it was called SLAVERY back then you idiot. This is the person who harbors ambitions of becoming the president of the United States one day. Talk about the dumbing-down of America. Anyone with commonsense would see the absurdity in Sarah Palin’s assertion, even though she didn’t directly mention the word slavery. No, that would undermine her argument. One more issue that shows how absurd her argument is — Derrick Bell and Barack Obama weren’t black nationalists. They weren’t fighting for a separatism. They wanted assimilation. Lost on her is the fact that in the 1990s there were virtually no black law professors at Harvard University, which was what Derrick Bell was fighting for. But the right wing, including people like Sarah Palin and Andrew Breitbart, want you to pretend slavery didn’t exist and Jim Crow was a figment of our imagination. They want equality but can’t utter the dirty word — racism. They would rather invoke Jeremiah Wright at the drop of a hat and point a finger at anyone else who dares to point a finger at the scourge that continues to dog us. Yes, Derrick Bell and President Obama fit that bill perfectly.

Sarah Palin can only appear on Fox News because they spew the same ignorant bullsh*t as she does. How this woman became governor or even a vice presidential candidate is beyond me. Instead of worrying about Obama’s vetting, how in the world did John McCain’s people not realize they were dealing with a moron.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is the keynote speaker at CPAC Saturday and she didn’t fail to deliver some blows against President Obama. At least, in her mind she was saying something significant. Like, President Obama “transformed a shining city on a hill to a sinking ship” and he “mucked it up.” Um, exactly what did Obama’s predecessor, a Republican president, do for the eight years he was in office? Sarah Palin says never before in history has there been such a gaping disconnect between how the president sees this country, heading in the right direction and the people on the ground saying something else. Um, George W. Bush. She says WTF to President Obama’s jobs plan (Win the Future). In other words, gutter talk coming from Alaska trailer trash.

Sarah Palin says President Obama is the champion of the power brokers who will bankroll his campaign. She said “our nominee must be strong, a fighter for American ideals,” etc. She says they are looking for someone who inherently believes in the Constitution. “Competition will lead us to victory in 2012,” Palin said. She says next time this year “we will have a true conservative in the White House” and a “Commander-in-Chief worthy of our troops.” “President Obama lacks the vision to lead.” Um, as though she has that vision. This is the same person who jumped ship on the people of Alaska. Sarah Palin also said before her speech, that a brokered GOP convention wouldn’t be a bad thing, but that would mean the Republican Party is in a tailspin and would play in President Obama’s favor.

The conservatives can’t help themselves. Immediately following Sarah Palin’s speech was Shania Twain’s “She Not Just a Pretty Face,” playing in the background. Um, that’s exactly what Sarah Palin is, just a pretty face (some would beg to differ), with nothing of substance or history of accomplishment to stand on.

Rahm Emanuel: “I’m Beginning to Miss Sarah Palin’s Insights”

Quote of the Day:  ”While we meet here tonight, the Republicans are having a debate across town. I’ve watched a number of them, and I’ve got to be honest, I never thought I’d say this — I’m beginning to miss Sarah Palin’s insights.”
