Alrick Oral Brown Charged in Wife’s Stabbing Death, Says It was ‘Accidental’

How do you accidentally stab someone to death? Alrick Oral Brown, 38, is charged with murder without premeditation after he called 911 to say he accidentally stabbed his wife, Dacota Stewart-Dick, 53, to death in their Parkland, Fla., home.

Sheriff’s deputies found Stewart-Dick on the floor of their home in the 12400 block of Northwest 78th Manor in the upscale gated Heron Bay community on Sunday. They found two bloody messages in the master bedroom that read “Im sorry” and “sorry,” the Sun Sentinel reports.

Deputies also said Alrick Oral Brown answered the door when they arrived on the scene and told them his wife was dead. He reportedly confessed to the crime, the Sun Sentinel reports.

Dacota Stewart-Dick had “several defensive stab wounds to her left hand and to both arms. The newspaper reports she was found with a knife in her hand that might have been placed there after her death, according to police documents.

Marissa Alexander Remains On Bond with Tightened Conditions

Marissa Alexander will remain free on bail under tightened conditions, Circuit Judge James Daniel ruled on Friday, due to the fact “mistakes were made.”

State Attorney Angela Corey sought to have Alexander’s bail revoked because she ran errands, such as going to the bank, transporting relatives and going to store to purchase clothes.

Marissa Alexander argued that she had sought and received permission for each of the trips she took from the Sheriff’s Office CPC counselor assigned to monitor her compliance with the terms of release.

CPC counselor April Wilson testified that she did approve each of Alexander’s trips and did so in the belief that she was following the court’s order specifying the terms of release. Her defense successfully argued that she reasonably relied on the permission of Wilson in believing she remained in compliance with her bond conditions.

15-Year-Old Kills Drunk Dad Christopher Albano for Beating His Mother

Christopher Albano, 35, was shot to death by his 15-year-old son, after the teen witnessed his drunk father beating his mother early New Year’s Day.

The teen rushed to his mother’s aid after he saw Albano hitting his mother, killing him on the spot. He was taken into custody last night but not arrested, while police decide whether to file charges.

The Orlando Sentinel reports police arrived at the Avalon home after the woman called 911 to say her husband came home drunk and was beating her just before 2:30 a.m. She told police her son shot Christopher Albano.

Neighbors told WESH that the family attended a New Year’s Eve party in the neighborhood before the altercationChristopher Albano has had a few brushes with the law. He was charged with resisting arrest in 1999 and with drunken disorderly conduct in 2004.

What a sad way for this young man to start the New Year. His life will forever be changed. He defended his mother. God knows what else he witnessed in his home in the past. I pray that the police will not charge him with any crimes.

SHOCK: Christine Keith, writer of a popular housewife blog, and her 14-year-old son Isaac Miller, were fatally shot by her ex-husband, Randy Keith, because he refused to accept that their marriage was over. Randy Keith then committed suicide.

The three were found dead in their East Lansing, Mich., home Thursday night. Police confirmed Randy Keith was the shooter. She leaves three others kids behind. Christine Keith had been adamant about ending her marriage, after domestic abuse incidents.

Her attorney, Steve Cornish, told the Times Herald that “I had very grave concerns for her safety, but I don’t think I expected something this extreme.” A friend, Cheryl Overley said, “I was shocked, but not surprised. It’s part of the cycle of violence. For people who see this and are moved by the story of people who died before their time…I hope they learn about [domestic violence] and start discussions.”

According to a protection order filed in Ingham County Circuit Court, Christine Keith wrote in her petition, “threats of shooting me to death with one of his hunting rifles were par for the course.” She later withdrew that order.

Christine Keith had referenced her husband’s domestic abuse, including controlling, erratic and sometimes violent behavior in her first divorce filing in 2003. Police were called to their Jackson-area home after he pushed her to the floor, that left her unconscious briefly. In her petition for a second order of protection in 2011, she said her husband, who had been fired from his job and hadn’t worked in a year, threatened to kill her if she ever left him.

In her petition, filed April 8, 2011, she said “I need to be safe from Randy. Based on Randy’s consistent pattern of action, once he’s released…I will not be safe.” She filed a second divorce petition in October. It was close to being final when she was killed.

The prosecution said George Zimmerman’s girlfriend is now accusing him of choking her one week ago in an incident that went unreported. “We feel the victim’s safety is of paramount concern,” said the prosecutor.

George Zimmerman’s arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.

Marissa Alexander, sent to prison for 20 years after firing warning shot during argument with abusive husband, wins new trial  in the case under Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law.

A state appeals court ruled that Marissa Alexander, 32, deserved a new trial because the judge failed to properly instruct the jury regarding her claim of self-defense.

No one was injured in the shooting but because Alexander fired a gun in the incident, Florida’s mandatory-minimum sentencing guidelines required the judge to sentence her to 20 years in prison. Source: Reuters

You will recall George Zimmerman, who killed unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin, was acquitted of his murder earlier this year.

Cleveland Hero Charles Ramsey Lauded as “Definition of Man” Served Time for Domestic Abuse

Cleveland Hero Charles Ramsey Lauded as “Definition of Man” Served Time for Domestic Abuse (Facebook)

Is Charles Ramsey, who allegedly rescued the three women held hostage by Ariel Castro, Monday afternoon really the “definition of a man?” After all, like Ariel Castro, he was a domestic abuser. The Smoking Gun reports his rap sheet includes three separate domestic violence convictions that resulted in prison sentences. So, is that really the definition of a man, a repeat wife beater? T-shirts have gone on sale honoring him as “Cleveland’s Hero.” His last arrest was 10 years ago, and he hasn’t reoffended, so shouldn’t he be left alone?

Hodge’s Cleveland, a restaurant in Downtown Cleveland where Ramsey works as a “dish technician,” started selling the T-shirts Wednesday. At Ramsey’s request, all proceeds will go to Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, the young women he liberated.

Here’s more on Cleveland’s Hero Charles Ramsey:

Ramsey’s first domestic violence charge came in February 1997. He entered a no contest plea a year later and was found guilty of the count by a Cleveland Municipal Court judge. While waiting to be sentenced, Ramsey was again arrested for domestic violence.

At the time of Ramsey’s second collar, in July 1998, he was already the subject of an arrest warrant issued in connection with his failure to appear for a court hearing in the first domestic violence case. As a result, Ramsey was jailed for violating terms of his release on bond. Ramsey subsequently entered a no contest plea to the second case and was, again, found guilty by a Cleveland judge.

The domestic violence cases apparently were consolidated for sentencing in August 1998, when Ramsey was ordered to serve six months in jail, placed on five years probation, and directed to attend a domestic violence counseling program.

Following his release from custody, Ramsey violated probation terms, according to an April 1999 court docket entry. While an arrest warrant was issued for Ramsey, it is unclear from court records whether it was executed before both misdemeanor cases were formally closed several years later.

Ramsey was again busted for domestic abuse in January 2003. He was subsequently indicted for felony “domestic violence with prior conviction,” a reference to his previous abuse cases. Source

Not to rain on Charles Ramsey’s parade, if he truly rescued Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, all praises to him for doing the right thing. Though there are rumblings that someone else had rescued the women from the house and not Charles Ramsey. Still, to hold him in such high esteem as the “definition of a man” can be considered by some as an affront to every woman, including the three he rescued, who have ever been on the receiving end of domestic violence.

Let me end by saying, if Charles Ramsey has changed, then good for him and I applaud him for refusing any proceeds from his new-found fame. Domestic violence continues to escalate in this country and not every victim is able to leave an abusive relationship — some are killed or maimed in some way. I serve a God of second chances and if he has changed, then we all need to give Charles Ramsey that second chance. I will say, he needs to mend fences with his daughter sooner rather than later. Their relationship is rocky for a reason.

NH Rep. Mark Warden Apologizes for Insensitive Domestic Abuse Remarks

Republicans continue to show how out of touch they are with women’s issues and it is a sad commentary. The latest Republican to trivialize a women’s issue, in the tradition of Richard Mourdock, is New Hampshire Rep. Mark Warden, who said some people may like being in abusive relationships and that they are free to leave at any time.

Um, case in point, Elizabeth Wilson was stabbed to death by her boyfriend Peter Daniels in Niagara Falls. She had reportedly complained of being afraid of Daniels.  So, no, Rep. Mark Warden, it isn’t as easy as you think to walk away.  Rep. Mark Warden made the insensitive comments Tuesday during a debate on a bill to reduce the penalty for simple assault in some cases, the Concord Monitor reports.

“Some people could make the argument that a lot of people like being in abusive relationships. It’s a love-hate relationship. It’s very, very common for people to stick around with somebody they love who also abuses him or her,” said Rep. Mark Warden, a Republican who represents Deering, Goffstown and Weare, during a meeting of the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee, according to a video provided by Granite State Progress, a liberal advocacy group.

According to the video, Warden added, “Is the solution to those kind of dysfunctional relationships going to be more government, another law? I’d say no. People are always free to leave.” Source

Amazing. Another politician dismissing being in an abusive relationship as no big deal. Absolutely despicable. Why make the comment only to apologize? Rep. Mark Warden apologized Wednesday saying,  “It was never my intention to minimize the trauma of domestic abuse or in any way demean the victims. I find violence abhorrent.” Um, that’s not what you said yesterday bruh!

Reeva Steenkamp’s ‘Joburg Dad’ Cecil Myers: Oscar Pistorius Was “Hasty, Impatient and Very Moody”

Reeva Steenkamps Joburg Dad Cecil Myers: Oscar Pistorius Was Hasty, Impatient and Very Moody

REEVA STEENKAMP’S ‘JOBURG DAD’ SPEAKS:  The murder of Reeva Steenkamp continues to weigh heavily on my mind. Why did this young woman have to die? Why do many women fall victim to domestic violence and domestic violence murders? We may never know if Reeva Steenkamp was the victim of domestic violence, but some people who were close to her are painting an unflattering picture of Oscar Pistorius. The Daily Mail is the only outlet reporting that the family of Reeva Steenkamp was told by police that her skull was crushed, possibly with a cricket bat that was found bloodied in the bathroom. The family reportedly viewed her body and saw extensive injuries, in addition to the gun shot wounds.

Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius crushed his girlfriend’s skull with a cricket bat before shooting her dead, police have told her family.

Details of the post-mortem examination of South African model Reeva Steenkamp were withheld from last week’s bail application hearing.

But grieving relatives who saw her body before Tuesday’s cremation in Port Elizabeth described horrific injuries from the cricket bat, and entry wounds from 9mm bullets fired by Pistorius.

They were also briefed about the model’s death by police and lawyers from the state prosecutor’s office. Source

That bloodied bat will play a crucial role in the trial and it will be interesting to hear what the forensics have uncovered. Oscar Pistorius’ defense was forced to detail its case in order for him to get bail. He said he used the cricket bat to break down the bathroom door. The prosecution didn’t have to reveal everything they discovered. It should be noted that the forensics haven’t come in and Oscar Pistorius could be in a jam if his account of what transpired doesn’t match the forensics. The fact that Reeva Steenkamp locked the bathroom door raising some red flags and when he screamed at the door, why didn’t she answer to say it’s me.

Cecil Myers, affectionately called her “Joburg dad” had the grim task of identifying her body. He was interviewed by the City Press and said, “The way she looked . . . that will remain with me forever.” Myers echoes the same sentiment as Reeva Steenkamp’s father, Barry Steenkamp, who said Oscar Pistorius will have to live with his conscience, whether he is telling the truth or not. Cecil Myers said, “she was my little girl, and he shot her four times from behind a closed door. One shot may have been a mistake – but four times?” That’s the position many are taking. One shot may be a mistake, but four, sound like some level of premeditation. He said his last contact with Reeva Steenkamp, hours before her murder, was in the form of a text message, saying  “hi guys, I’m too tired. It’s too far to drive. I’m sleeping at Oscar’s tonight. See you tomorrow.”

Reeva Steenkamp’s best friend’s dad is painting a troubling picture of Oscar Pistorius — a dark side. Cecil Myers characterized Oscar Pistorius as “moody” and that he was very nice and charming when he and Reeva started dating but once they actually started going steady, that charm started to dissipate. Classic signs of an abuser. How many victims of domestic violence can look back and say, yes, that’s how my abuser reeled me in and got me comfy. Myers said, Pistorius stopped coming inside their home to say hello. “He just dropped her and picked her up. That’s not right. I call it respect. If you’re in a relationship and you pick up the ‘daughter’ in the house, at least come in and say hello.”

“She went with Oscar to a sports-awards evening. And after that he wouldn’t leave her alone. He kept pestering her, phoning and phoning and phoning her.“Oscar was hasty and impatient and very moody – that’s my impression of him.“She told me he pushed her a bit into a corner. She felt caged in. I told her I would talk to him. I told him not to force himself on her. Back off. He agreed, but his face showed me what he was thinking: ‘Oh, this guy is talking nonsense.’ He did cool down a bit. Then they started going out steadily, and she was more at his home.“I once talked to her about Oscar’s moodiness. She didn’t answer me.”

He takes Oscar’s testimony that he and Reeva were madly in love with a pinch of salt. “I think she loved him, but it was no massive love affair.”Was he ever worried about Reeva and Oscar? “My answer to that is ‘no comment’, and that’s probably enough of an answer. There’s a dark side to him. And all we’re left with now is a huge emptiness.” Source

Some may think Oscar Pistorius is walking free at this juncture. But he isn’t. He will never be free nor will ever be looked at the same way again. Whether he is acquitted of premeditated murder and given a lesser charge, he will have to live with the blood of Reeva Steenkamp on his head and his hands. Too many women are losing their lives at the hands of their significant-others.  Oscar Pistorius, the South African hero, inspirational role model who overcame adversity and the international celebrity, is now a murderer. Whether it was accidental or the result of domestic violence, he will never go back to life as usual and he shouldn’t. It’s funny that Oscar Pistorius is reportedly about to accept delivery of a pricey supercar — a 204 mph 3.8 liter McLaren MP4-12C Spider that he ordered last year. He has reportedly vowed not to drive it because of the image it would portray. He has the car but the Steenkamps and Myers don’t have Reeva.

Here’s a graphic of what the police found in Oscar Pistorius’ home (City Press):
