The Drudge Report, which delivers talking points to the right wing, is up to its usual tricks. The headline leading the page today is “Illegal Found Dead in Tex.” Um, one problem with that — it deliberately ignores the fact that the “illegal” was an 11-year-old child, Gilberto Francisco Ramos Juarez.
Just so you know, Gilberto Francisco Ramos Juarez, who is from Huehuetenango, Chiantla, Guatemala, was traveling with a coyote. His body was found about a mile from the southern border of Texas. He was identified after the phone number for his brother who lives in Chicago, was found inside his belt buckle. The AP reports his family last heard from him about 25 days before his body was found. Never mind the fact that child crossing the borders alone have become a humanitarian crisis.
Hundreds of undocumented immigrants die crossing the borders yearly, as Matt Drudge and his cronies are aware. They are deliberately deflecting from the fact that a child died. One who was caught up in the wave of child crossing the borders into the Rio Grande Valley region in the last weeks. Drudge didn’t focus on the AP story, but rather, chose to focus on the words “illegal” and “dead.” You see, “illegal found dead in Tex” works just fine for Drudge to gin up right wing outrage.
