Garcelle Beauvais: Beyonce Can be Sexy Without “Everything Showing Out Grinding”

Actress Garcelle Beauvais went in on Beyonce, saying she can be sexy without “everything showing out grinding.” Amen! In a recent interview published by Hello Beautiful, Beauvais, who starred in “The Jamie Foxx Show,” gave her two cents on what it’s like to be a sex symbol in Hollywood.

Garcelle Beauvais said, “For me, you’re obviously flattered when someone calls you sexy or thinks you’re sexy.” “I think that’s great. But, for me now, there’s so many ways to be sexy without being overt about it. I think you can wear a great short dress, but if you have long sleeves and you’re only showing leg.”

Beauvais said she wants to remain sexy as she gets older, but will do it in a classy manner. Take note ‘divas!’

“I love Beyonce. I love her,” Beauvais said. “I think she’s beautiful and talented. But I think there has to be a fine line where you have to take responsibility for what you do. I think it’s good to be sexy, but sexy can come across in so many different ways. It doesn’t have to be everything showing out grinding, all of the time.”

You will recall the x-rated performance Beyonce gave at the Grammy Awards while performing “Drunk In Love” with husband Jay Z. This is along the same lines as Patti LaBelle smackdown of ‘today’s divas’ as little heifers who can’t sing.

But….. Yeah, there’s a HUGE but….

Should someone who posed for Playboy Magazine in 2007 be critical of Beyonce? Or anyone else, for that matter?

Should Garcelle Beauvais Criticize Beyonce on Being Sexy?

Well, Garcelle Beauvais kinda walked back the comment and now says she was taken out of context.Yeah, she wussed out. You be the judge…..

India.Arie Pens Open Letter Blasting Grammy Awards for Snubbing Black Music

India.Arie Blasts Grammy Awards for Snubbing Black Music (Credit: Soul Bird Journal)

India.Arie (@IndiaArie) who happens to be one of my favorite singers, put the Grammy Awards on blast for snubbing black artists. She wrote @KendrickLamar “was robbed” and levels blame on the politics of the music industry, calling it a “popularity contest. #OhMy

Here’s India Arie’s Open Letter about the Grammys 2014:

@Kendricklamar WAS robbed, BUT he was not the only one who was robbed. Personally, I was pleased he was able to perform and they KILLED! IT! One of the FEW moving moments of the night for ME.

Though it’s called “Music industries biggest night” the #Grammys are NOT about the music, it’s a popularity contest. The voting process allows people, to vote on name recognition alone – the music industry politics is a whole NUTHER conversation.  Too much to go into here.

The American Music Awards is a show that awards sales and popularity – the #Grammys are SAID to be about the music.

If the hip hop community voted on hip hop –  r&b COMMUNITY the same –  same for each category – we’d see winners that reflect the MUSIC ITSELF. We all know that’s just not the way it goes.

NOW the BIGGER losers, are ALL of black music. Where was the black music community represented in last nights #Grammy show? Performers and Winners (or not) … Where were the black artists?

And this isn’t the first time the #Grammy’s has had a show all but excluding young black America and black artists in general, although we set the worlds musical trends. Why NOT televise the lifetime achievement awards of the Isley Brothers? SURELY they deserved to be on televised stage LAST NIGHT! While other artists were on stage TWICE?

The truth is in a perfect world diversity would matter, and respect would be rampant, but the TRUTH is, The #Grammys is a television show, and in THAT world ratings reign supreme.  So, in general, bigger names take the stage, and sadly the biggest names often times ARE BIGGER drawn along racial lines from the release of an album. i.e. marketing dollars, and just general support.  It’s unfortunate.

I don’t even get surprised any more, but, it still hits my sense of fairness, because I KNOW many of the artists who are overlooked. I LIVE in that world. We keep showing up and subjecting ourselves to the game, hoping MAYBE we’ll win. I was so HAPPY to see @Kendricklamar take that stage – because it is a FORM of winning, at LEAST, he was SEEN.

Speaking of diversity, congratulations to my PERSONAL favorite albums of the year –  @I_GregoryPorter #LiquidSpirit @Realsnarkypuppy and @lalahhathaway on your win and THANK YOU! @pharrell for acting RIGHT in the presence of the greatness that is @Nilerodgers and #StevieWonder

P.S. No mention of Nelson Mandela at ALL? … and THIS is why we NEED the Image Awards AND the BET awards.

Grammy Awards Recap: Beyonce’s ‘Drunk In Love’ Performance Raunchy, Not Sultry

Let’s just start off with the obvious snubs at last night’s Grammy Awards show:

Kendrick Lamar, 0 for 7.

Drake, 0 for 5.

Taylor Swift, 0 for 4.

Kendrick Lamar gave a heckuva performance with Imagine Dragons. He literally raised the roof. I gave him a standing ovation from my living room. So he didn’t get a golden ‘sippy cup,’ but he can take solace in the fact that people now have a new appreciation of him as a rapper. He gave a very noteworthy performance for an awards show that was beginning to fizzle. I

My Top 3 Grammy PerformancesKendrick Lamar with Imagine Dragons, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, along with Madonna, Queen Latifah, and others, as well as Chicago and Robin Thicke, though I must say, there’s no Chicago without Peter Cetera.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Daft Punk simply dominated the show with four and five wins, respectively. Lorde and Kacey Musgraves eked out wins over veterans Katy Perry and Taylor Swift (who gave me a headache with her head movements).

Beyonce and Jay-Z #surfboard:  I can’t go any further without talking about Beyonce and Jay-Z’s opening number, “Drunk in Love,” (#DrunkInLove) which was meant to be sultry and erotic. Um, let’s call it what it was — pure smut and not becoming of close friends of President Obama and his wife. Beyonce is no modern-day Jennifer Beals of “Flashdance” fame. She tried, but failed. Some people tweeted Beyonce was sultry and sexy. Um, no. This is exactly the mess Patti Labelle referenced when she gave a blunt interview about the use of the word “diva.” You wouldn’t catch any of those women giving such a performance when they were Beyonce’s age. Sorry, but I can’t ooh and aah about Beyonce and Jay-Z’s performance. Imagine if Miley Cyrus or Rihanna had put on such a performance? Let me also add, it was pretty obvious Queen Bey was lip-syncing. Thankfully, my 12-year-old wasn’t interested in watching the Grammys. Still, that was just inappropriate for young children to watch. #beyonce

Daft Punk’s dopey robots suits are really OLD: Daft Punk and those wacky robot suits got old really fast. Shouldn’t they have acted like human beings and given their supporters and the audience some respect and utter even one word — thanks? There’s a time and place for a Darth Vader-type get-up. This isn’t about mystique. Nobody cared what KISS looked like when they took their makeup off. This was just plain stupid.

Pharrell Williams’ Royal Mounties Hat: I won’t hate, but Pharrell Williams’ Ranger Rick hat spawned a lot of ridicule on Twitter. Um, even Arby’s asked for their hat back in a tweet. No matter how you view the hat, it made Williams, who is usually fashion-forward, look totally ridiculous.

Hunter Hayes won Randy Jackson “That Was Pitchy Dawg” Award: One of the worst performances of the night came from Hunter Hayes. His new song, “Invisible,” is nice, but he belted it out in about 10 or more keys. Cringe-worthy. Really dude? On music’s biggest night?

Great Performances: John Legend delivered “All of Me” tenderly and romantically. He did so with dignity and grace. Something Beyonce and Jay-Z lacked. Even Taylor Swift’s piano ballad “All Too Well,” was a great rendition, despite her hair-thrashing.

This and That:  Pink is a wonderful singer, but her Cirque du Soleil act was a throwback to last year’s Grammy Awards. Would have loved to see her try something new, like stand on the stage and sing the whole song. WTF did Ozzy Osbourne say during his introduction of Ringo Starr? He’s proof that saying no to drugs is the real deal. Steven Tyler’s brief rendition of Smokey Robinson’s song was scary. Did you see Smokey’s eyes? Dang. Lastly, I love LL Cool J, but we needed Amy Poehler and Tina Fey as hosts last night. Madonna trotted out with her black son, David Ritchie, on the red carpet, after she came under fire for calling her white son, Rocco Ritchie “disn*gga” on Instagram last week. How convenient.

The right wing must have been fuming last night over the 34 marriages that were performed at the Grammys including gay couples. Um, did Queen Latifah do a soft-come out? More power to her if she did! Here’s tweet from AJ McCarron, who is about to enter the NFL draft, talking about the ‘demons’ at the Grammy Awards. Whatever.

Rush Limbaugh couldn’t help himself. He had to weigh in on the Grammy Awards:

“It was horrible, it was despicable,” Limbaugh said of the show. He agreed with the words of former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, who thought the “demonic” performances showed there’s “a lot of evil in the world.” Limbaugh also admonished Macklemore’s lyrics, which “openly attacked right-wing conservatives and Christians.” Source: Mediaite

Chris Brown Response to Critics after Grammy Victory: F*uck Off

Chris Brown Response to Critics after Grammy Victory: F*uck Off (Mashable)

Chris Brown took to Twitter to respond to critics of his 2012 Grammy Awards victory by saying: fuck off. Wow, now that’s how someone who has been accused of being a woman beater should respond to the general public, right? Wrong. It shows he thinks he is entitled to be welcomed with open-arms after beating up his then-girlfriend Rihanna. It shows that the record label is more concerned with money than about what’s right. This rant clearly shows Chris Brown still has an anger management issue.

Everyone deserves a second chance, unless you are charged with a crime against children or being a cold-blooded murderer, but the way to earn the trust and respect from people isn’t to be overbearing and rude.

Nicki Minaj Arrives on the Grammys Red Carpet in A Red Gown with a Man Dressed as Pope

Nicki Minaj arrives on the Grammys Red Carpet in a red nun’s habit walking with a man dressed as Pope. Tacky and disgraceful. The Red Riding Hood egg moment of the Grammy awards. This is a mockery.

Nicki Minaj Arrives on the Grammys Red Carpet in A Red Gown with a Man Dressed as Pope

If Nicki Minaj thought this was a noble stunt in the tradition of Lady Gaga, then she’s sadly mistaken. This was blasphemy and the Catholics should condemn this mess. This whole ensemble was custom Versace, with the whole monastery-themed performance of her new single, “Roman Holiday.” This was a big miss. This was a desperate play to outdo Lady Gaga’s egg stunt at last year’s Grammy Awards.

Nicki Minaj’s performance, a mock-exorcism, during the Grammy Awards were also a disgrace. I am not surprised to hear the outrage coming from Catholic organizations.

“Perhaps the most vulgar was the sexual statement that showed a scantily clad female dancer stretching backwards while an altar boy knelt between her legs in prayer,” said Bill Donohue, the president of the Catholic League.

“None of this was by accident, and all of it was approved The Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammys. Wheter Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy. Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam,” Donohue said.

It was pure blasphemy and whoever approved this mess should apologize, along with Nicki Minaj. This isn’t entertainment. She needs to learn a thing or two from powerhouses such as Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Tina Turner, Nancy Wilson, Anita Baker, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, Bonnie Raitt and many others.

More on the hot mess called Nicki Minaj:

Perhaps the most vulgar part was the sexual statement that showed a scantily clad female dancer stretching backwards while an altar boy knelt between her legs in prayer. Finally, “Come All Ye Faithful” was sung while a man posing as a bishop walked on stage; Minaj was shown levitating.

None of this was by accident, and all of it was approved by The Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammys. Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy. Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam.

Celebrity Briefs: LeAnn Rimes, Grammy Award Winning Country Singer, Involved in Traffic Collision in West Los Angeles, No One was Hurt
