Should United Kingdom’s Home Office tweet updates on arrests, including pixelated photos of suspects, who are allegedly working illegally in the UK after several raids? What ever happened to a person is innocent until proven guilty? The tweets were tagged with the hashtag #immigrationoffenders. While most posts mentioned those targeted were suspects, one did not. The official tweets about the raids have been described by critics as ‘dystopian’ and likened to ‘UK Hunger Games,’ the Guardian reports.
These arrests come in the wake of the “go home or face arrest” campaign being waged against illegal immigrants. It has been ripped as “racist and intimidatory” by critics.
A post stating that 139 people had been arrested on Thursday links to a government web page headlined “Immigration offenders arrested in Home Office operations”, which twice describes those arrested as offenders before mentioning they are at this stage merely suspects.
The immigration minister, Mark Harper, said: in a statement: “Today’s operations highlight the routine work we are carrying out every day to stamp out illegal working. We are sending a clear message to employers who choose to use illegal labour – we will find you and you will pay a heavy penalty.” Source: Guardian

A group of bipartisan senators have unveiled an immigration overhaul bill that comes a day before President Obama unveils his bill tomorrow in Las Vegas. It is clear that the House Republicans, who are beholden to the Tea Party, will most likely object, but this will only work in President Obama’s favor.
According to a five-page draft of the plan obtained by The New York Times on Sunday, the eight senators — including Mr. McCain; Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York; and Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina — have agreed to address the failings of the immigration system in one comprehensive measure, rather than in smaller pieces, and to offer a “tough, fair and practical road map” that would eventually lead to a chance at citizenship for nearly all of the immigrants here illegally.
“We on the Democratic side have said that we are flexible and we want to get a bill,” Mr. Schumer told reporters in New York on Sunday. “But there’s a bottom line, and that’s a path to citizenship for the 11 or so million people who qualify. We’ve made great, great progress with our Republican colleagues.”
Under the senators’ plan, most illegal immigrants would be able to apply to become permanent residents — a crucial first step toward citizenship — but only after certain border enforcement measures had been accomplished.
Among the plan’s new proposals is the creation of a commission of governors, law enforcement officials and community leaders from border states that would assess when border security measures had been completed. A proposal would also require that an exit system be in place for tracking departures of foreigners who entered the country through airports or seaports, before any illegal immigrants could start on a path to citizenship. While I am for immigration reform, I would urge lawmakers to ensure that people who are going through the process legally be given the first shot and not pushed to the back of the line. Of course, people like Michelle Malkin, who is a Filippino-American, is having a heart-attack over the proposed legislation, branding it “shamnesty redux.”
I would venture to say that throwing “amnesty” at immigrants, specifically the Hispanic community, won’t have them running back into their arms come 2016. The base of the Republican Party has insulted immigrants for years — self-deportation, compared to dogs, etc. One election cycle isn’t enough to erase the ugly rhetoric of people on the right such as Michelle Malkin.
Sen. John McCain backs the Dream Act and path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Sen. McCain said on ABC’s “This Week,” ”We can’t go on forever with 11 million people living in this country in the shadows in an illegal status. We cannot forever have children who were born here — who were brought here by their parents when they were small children to live in the shadows, as well.” This is a stark departure from the hardline stance many in the Republican Party have taken on immigration reform, including former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who suggested that self-deportation was an option.
Neil Munro, a White House reporter at Tucker Carlson’s conservative news site The Daily Caller, heckled President Obama during his press conference about granting amnesty to 800,000 young people who are illegal immigrants. President Obama got very testy at Munro’s heckling. It seems Neil Munro interrupted Obama before he was finished speaking. There’s a time and place for asking questions and Neil Munro was wrong. This isn’t how a true journalist should behave. Neil Munro tried to twist what happened in the Rose Garden today, but no matter how he spun this, he was still wrong. Even a fifth grader could probably tell that the president was in the middle of his speech.
We are very proud of, @NeilMunroDC for doing his job

Tucker Carlson said:
Neil Munro said he went to the White House with questions and had “no intention of interrupting the president.” Munro says Obama “turned his back” on reporters after finishing the speech.

Tucker Carlson was quick to compare what Neil Munro did with Sam Donaldson’s interview style with former president Ronald Reagan. Here’s an excerpt of Sam Donaldson’s response in an email to the Huffington Post:
Never once did I interrupt a president in any way while he was making a formal statement, a speech, honoring awardees or in any other way holding the floor. Yes, almost always when he was finished in the Rose Garden or in the Briefing Room or at a photo opportunity with other world leaders I tried to question him (only rarely was it a shout on the rope line, more often a more normal tone of voice) and other reporters of course did the same thing along with me.
What this man did yesterday is something new, to me wrong and unusual. I think it is probably the result of the growing incivility of the times, the competition among reporters and news organizations to be noticed not only for the work product but for the theatrics of the gathering…and there is one more factor, let’s face it: Many on the political right believe this president ought not to be there – they oppose him not for his polices and political view but for who he is, an African American! These people and perhaps even certain news organizations (certainly the right wing talkers like Limbaugh) encourage disrespect for this president. That is both regrettable and adds, in this case, to the general dislike of the press on the part of the general public.
For Tucker Carlson to say that he would if he can give this man a raise for this rude attempt to interrupt the president is reflective of what I’ve said above and, to me, lowers my opinion of Tucker.
Neil Munro should be banned from covering the White House. I agree with Sam Donaldson, for Tucker Carlson to praise his reporter for his despicable behavior lowers the opinion many held of Tucker Carlson. Let’s not forget Tucker Carlson was the same person who called for Michael Vick’s execution for financing a dogfighting operation for which he served time in prison and paid his debt to society. Tucker Carlson has zero credibility in my opinion. Maybe the publisher of the Daily Caller, Neil Patel, recognizes that Neil Munro disrespected President Obama. He wrote,
The President today announced a very controversial policy and does not want to answer tough questions about it. Neil Munro is a veteran Washington reporter who today tried his best to time his question to be first as the President was wrapping up his remarks. He in no way meant to heckle the President of the United States.
President Obama has been disrespected so many times during his four years in office, from Rep. Joe Wilson’s “you lie” outburst, or Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer sticking her finger in President Obama’s face during a heated argument, to being asked to produce his grades because he couldn’t have been accepted to Columbia University and Harvard Law School on his own accord. Some people will say this is about race, but for me, maybe there’s a tinge of racism inherent in the disrespect, but he has been disrespected by Democrats as well. So, go figure….
Watch the video:
Mitt Romney’s campaign is DOA, dead on arrival, with most Hispanic voters because of his hard-line position on immigration. Even former Florida Republican governor Jeb Bush is advocating for a moderate stance from Republicans on the matter. Well, Mitt Romney continues to show his hypocrisy and arrogance on the subject of illegal immigration, ignoring the fact that his father, George Romney, was born in Mexico. Um, guess what, that makes Mitt Romney a descendant of a Mexican-American.
Mitt Romney tried to sweep that under a rug until Univision’s Jorge Ramos got all in his stuff by asking him if he wasn’t a Mexican-American, since his father was born in Mexico. Here’s the ridiculous response he offered: “I don’t think people would think I was being honest with them if I said I was Mexican-American,” Romney said, adding that he’d still be grateful if Ramos “put the word out.” He said his parents were American citizens who never spoke any Spanish. That begs the question of why they were in Mexico to begin with.
Either way, Mitt Romney’s goose is cooked with Hispanics, since he seems to think the illegal immigrants in this country are mostly coming from Mexico and none from European countries. He can stick a fork in that turkey because the Latino vote has just left him. Now he’s in Florida trying to appease to the Hispanics, but it is a little too late. In case he doesn’t know, Hispanics are less likely to support a candidate who is screaming on top of his voice that he will veto the Dream Act. That self-deportation comment will come back to bite him time and time again.
TX high school senior Joaquin Luna commits suicide over illegal immigration status and bemoaned the chances of federal Dream Act passage.
Illegal immigrant high school senior Joaquin Luna, 18, of Mission, TX, committed suicide Friday because he “felt trapped by his lack of opportunities” and his despair at the chances of the federal Dream Act.
Mr Mendoza said: ‘He was actually doing this for the cause, mainly the Dream Act.
‘He was doing this to show politicians, to show that something had to be done because there are a lot of kids out there in the same situation.”
The sad death highlights the plight of hundreds of thousands of illegal-immigrant students who are caught between a decision their parents made when they were young and the realities of U.S. immigration law.

This is disturbing on so many levels, but to commit suicide over one’s immigration status takes the cake. Please share your thoughts over Joaquin Luna’s suicide
I applaud the Hispanic community for coming out in full force against the hatred being spewed by Lou Dobbs on a daily basis on CNN. Democracia Ahora is kicking off an effort Friday with the release of a report based on interviews with 100 Hispanic leaders about the impact of Dobbs’ evening show. They are calling on CNN to rein in Dobbs. Better yet, they should just fire him and that goes for people like Glenn Beck and yes, the leader of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh, who have been making divisive and inflammatory comments on a daily basis. I am glad that the Latinos and many African Americans are taking a stand against such bigotry and obvious racism. We should be moving forward and being a beacon of hope for the world to emulate, not stepping backwards into the darkest periods in American history.
According to the report, 90 percent of the people interviewed believe Dobbs is helping create a negative image of Hispanics, with his frequent criticisms of illegal immigration. But Democracia Ahora is hoping the report inspires a grassroots movement aimed at executives at CNN’s parent company, Time Warner, to draw attention to what the group calls “frequent negative portrayals of Hispanics on the Lou Dobbs show.” It is using its release to start a national campaign, “Enough is Enough!” that will be carried out through www.TellCNNEnoughisEnough.com, that goes live Friday.
“We’re asking CNN, the alleged ‘most trusted name in news,’ to really hold Lou Dobbs to the journalistic standards he should be held to,” said Jorge Mursuli, president of Democracia Ahora, who expressed frustration with Dobbs’ reports that immigration contributed to thousands of new reported cases of leprosy and of a ‘superhighway’ from Mexico to Canada.
“CNN needs to take responsibility for what he’s saying,” he said, adding, “We want CNN to insure that Lou Dobbs is going to stick with the facts. He can have his opinions but he can’t present his opinions as facts.” Mursuili said Democracia Ahora will be coordinating petitions and encouraging other Hispanic groups to make phone calls and write letters to CNN asking the news station to “to cease the daily drum roll of misinformation and offensive commentary about the Latino community on the Lou Dobbs Tonight show.” Source: Politico
We should hold these media outlets accountable for the content of their broadcasts, just as much as we should hold our elected officials accountable for their actions. People like Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Michael Savage, Laura Ingraham, Pat and Bay Buchanan, and all the other hatemongers must be held accountable for their actions. There is a big difference between being fair and balanced and pushing hateful rhetoric. The reality is that there are many people who believe the garbage they are spewing and we are seeing many on the fringe acting on the lies they are hearing in the media. It could turn violent and get really ugly if something drastic isn’t done.
I guess Lou Dobbs will be foaming at the mouth over these latest developments on immigration during his Monday evening telecast. According to the Wall Street Journal, immigration is on the wane as work dries up in the “rich” countries. With unemployment rising and backlashes against foreign workers mounting, among other things, we have what is potentially the biggest reverse in immigration since the Great Depression. The United States, Dubai and other rich countries are losing their allure of the promise of a better life for immigrants. Reports and data from government ministries and outside organizations suggest that the flow of immigrants from poor to wealthier countries is slowing significantly, with more people returning home.
According to the WSJ, among the returnees: road builders from Bangladesh, domestic servants from the Philippines, factory workers from Indonesia and Vietnam, construction workers from Mexico, as well as bankers, lawyers and real-estate professionals from around the world who were working in Singapore and Dubai. I have seen reports in my own homeland of Jamaica, where some people who have lost their jobs and homes are returning home. I guess it is better to head back to the familiarity of home than stay in a country that doesn’t have very much to offer someone down on their luck or those who feel that they will find better opportunities in their own countries.
Emigration from Mexico to the U.S. dropped 13% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, with more Mexicans leaving the U.S. than coming in. Indonesian authorities expect 60,000 or more citizens to be sent home from Malaysia, South Korea and other wealthy neighbors this year, as immigrant workers lose their jobs. Tens of thousands of Indians are washing their hands of Dubai as jobs there dry up and work permits expire. And in the U.K., the number of registered workers coming from new European Union member nations like Poland and the Czech Republic dropped 55% in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter a year earlier.
A growing number of migrants are returning home to places as diverse as Nepal and Tajikistan, while many are deciding not to emigrate to begin with, says Dilip Ratha, an economist and migration expert at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., citing reports from ministries and embassies. Mr. Ratha calls this reverse migration “very new” and “unprecedented.”
Such migratory shifts could have profound consequences for developed nations, especially in places where domestic populations aren’t growing fast enough to fill jobs or pay for social needs. High-skill immigrants are an important source of tax revenue in some cities, and their kids fill the classrooms of universities and private schools. In the developing world, remittances sent home by migrant workers are also slowing, meaning less income — and potentially, less growth. Source: Wall Street Journal
That information is pretty staggering and sobering at the same time. Some attention should be paid to the fact that there are some countries who are offering incentives for immigrants to return to their own countries and many of these countries are making it harder for immigrants to stay due to increases in visa restrictions. For example, Spain and Japan have offered cash incentives for immigrants to go home. Australia recently disclosed that it plans to cut its intake of skilled migrants this year by 14%. Malaysia has frozen work permits for foreign workers in some sectors of the economy and is asking employers to lay off foreigners before they lay off native-born residents.

Michelle Malkin, Neal Boortz, Glenn Beck, Other Right Wing Commentators Using Swine Flu to Promote Racism against Illegal Mexican Immigrants
The conservative right wing nutjobs like columnist Michelle Malkin, radio show hosts Neal Boortz and Michael Savage, as well as the lunatic Glenn Beck need to be put in check sooner rather than later for spewing racist hatred by stating illegal immigrants are responsible for carrying swine flu across the Mexican border and infecting innocent Americans. Lost in all Michelle Malkin’s babble is the fact that she is the product of an immigrant family and her lack of empathy for immigrants is insulting and hypocritical, to say the least. These people have sunk to a new low and that’s just pitiful. There is no evidence to support such scurrilous claims but this has not deterred these morons from spreading these accusations faster than the contagion itself.
Here is a sampling of the racist accusations:
“Illegal aliens are bringing in a deadly new flue strain. Make no mistake about it,” blares Michael Savage.
“I’ve blogged for years about the spread of contagious diseases from around the world into the US as a result of uncontrolled immigration,” writes Michelle Malkin.
“What happens if there’s a rash of deaths in Mexico… and if you’re a family in Mexico and people are dying and Americans are not, why wouldn’t you flood this border?” announces Glenn Beck.
There is more. These idiots are also trying to convince their audiences that Islamic terrorists have somehow been able to do what has eluded scientists elsewhere in the world, the ability to concoct a deadly new flu virus, and then miraculously introduce it into the Mexican population.
“What better way to sneak a virus into this country than to give it to Mexicans….then spread a rumor there there are construction jobs here, and there they come,” says Boortz.
Savage — “make no mistake about it” — believes that radical Islamic countries planted the virus in Mexico knowing that humans make the “perfect mules for bringing the strain into America.” Source: The Huffington Post
Their comments are idiotic and deeply divisive at the same time. They owe the Mexican people an apology. Why would the terrorist groups single out Mexicans instead of Americans if they were able to create this new bio-terrorist flu? Geez, I guess these morons didn’t bother to think of that little detail. Here’s another gem. Isn’t Mexico City, the epicenter of this outbreak, hundreds of miles from the US border? Lastly, didn’t the eight students from New York City contract the disease after a trip to Cancun, Mexico? Who are the real idiots now? Michelle Malkin, Neal Boortz, Mike Savage and Glenn Beck are spreading something far more vile than swine flu — deep-rooted hatred and that’s a very dangerous thing.
