Rep. Charlie Rangel: “I Love Obama” But Situation in Syria and Drawing Red Line “Embarrassing”

President Obama red-line reference in regards to Syria using chemical weapons is coming back to bite him. As he heads into hearings on possible military intervention in Syria later this week, one loyal Democrat Rep. Charlie Rangel, just threw him under a bus. Rangel said he “loves” Obama but found his handling of the Syria mess “embarrassing.” Guess that’s one less Democrat he can count on.

Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) responded to a question about President Obama’s red line on Syria use of chemical weapons saying, “I love Obama, and you’ll never find a truer Democrat than me, but this whole idea of any president of the United States drawing lines saying that if any country does something, that he considers wrong, that the nation is going to war, it’s unheard of–drawing a red line. So, of course, it’s embarrassing. I wish it didn’t happen.”

There’s more. He also said Secretary of State John Kerry must be “even more embarrassed than me” after making such a strong case for military intervention in Syria. The bottom line is that Americans are war-weary and it’s time for other Middle Eastern countries to step up to the plate and get Bashar al Assad out. We can’t fight everybody’s battles. Still, it’s kinda funny to hear Rep. Charlie Rangel use the word “embarrassed.” Wasn’t that how Democratic House leadership felt about him during his ethics hearing?

Obama Approval Ratings Sinks to New Low on Rising Gas Prices, Disapproval Rate Climbs to 47% (CBS News)

Obama approval  ratings have slipped to a new low, with 47% disapproval of his performance,  and that’s in large part to the perception that he isn’t doing enough to stem the rising gas prices.

CBS News:  President Obama’s approval rating has hit the lowest level ever in CBS News polling, according to the latest CBS News/New York Times survey. The drop may be partially attributable to rising gas prices.

Just 41 percent of Americans approve of the job Mr. Obama is doing as president, according to the poll, conducted from March 7 to 11. Another 47 percent disapprove of his performance, up from 41 percent last month.

Mr. Obama’s approval rating was 50 percent last month.

The average U.S. price of a gallon of gasoline has jumped 12 cents over the past two weeks. The poll found that most Americans, 54 percent, believe gas prices are something a president can do a lot about.

Newt Gingrich claims when he becomes president, he can get gas prices back down to $2.50. Yeah, when donkeys fly.  I don’t believe President Obama, like his predecessor George W. Bush, can manipulate the gas prices. Experts attribute the changes to a variety of factors, many of which are outside the president’s control. The biggest reason I believe we are seeing such a spike in gas prices is due to the rumors of war in the Middle East, particularly between Iran and Israel.

It’s ironic that this polls comes as another poll says Americans believe they are better off. I guess this begs the question of which Americans? The black community still has a 14.1% unemployment rate, compared to 7.3% for whites.

Bloomberg poll:  “Finds more Americans now say they are personally better off since President Obama took office than worse off, 38% to 36%, the first favorable reading for the president on that question since Bloomberg began asking in December 2010. That said, Americans are still far from content, with 61% saying the U.S. is moving in the wrong direction.”
