As Rep. Michele Bachmann continues to spew lies about President Obama’s ‘lavish lifestyle’ at the taxpayers’ expense (four personal chefs and a dog walker for Bo), Politico reports that former president George W. Bush is the most expensive ex-president.

According to Politico, ”The costliest former president? George W. Bush, who clocked in at just over $1.3 million. That includes almost $400,000 for 8,000 square feet of office space and $85,000 in telephone costs.’

That’s a big chunk of the ”the nearly $3.7 million on former presidents last year” by the federal government. “That covers a $200,000 pension, compensation and benefits for office staff, and other costs like travel, office space and postage.”

Um, imagine how much of our taxpayer dollars was spent when he was president. Add the Iraq War to that as well, since he took us into war on a lie. All that is lost on the right wing, including Michele Bachmann, who should be worried about her ethics investigation.

Romney’s ‘Bold’ Veep Pick Paul Ryan Slams Obama for Auto Plant that Closed Under George W. Bush

Paul Ryan’s hypocrisy continues to show, added with a level of dumbness. He now blames President Obama for not saving an auto plant that closed on former president George W. Bush. The plant closed in 2008.

NJ Gov. Chris Christie: Obama “Most Ill-Prepared Person to Assume Presidency in My Lifetime”

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  President Obama “ is the most ill-prepared person to assume the presidency in my lifetime.”

– NJ Gov. Chris Christie, speaking to Kentucky Republicans, added Obama is “posing and preening” instead of working to resolve pressing issues facing the country and is “a guy who literally is walking around in a dark room trying to find the light switch of leadership.”

Damn, he just lit into Obama but is Mitt Romney a viable alternative? Not to take Obama’s side, but Washington in general is terribly broken. I agree Obama wants to be everyone’s friend and that can’t be. He needs to get some cojones and be tough, not spineless.

Conservatives Suggest Race War Brewing With Alleged Spike in “Black-on-White” Violence

RACE WAR BREWING:  McKay Coppins: “If you’ve spent much time consuming conservative media lately, you’ve probably learned about a slow-burning ‘race war’ going on in America today. Sewing together disparate data points and compelling anecdotes like the attack in Norfolk, conservative bloggers and opinion-makers are driving the narrative with increasing frequency. Their message: Black-on-white violence is spiking — and the mainstream media is trying to cover it up.”

“Black-on-white” violence is now the new code word to vote for Mitt Romney and not the black guy. What benefit would covering up a hate crime be for the mainstream media? I personally have covered black-on-white, black-on-black and white-on-black crimes for a long time.  Never mind the fact that the right wing media pulled out all the stops to demonize Trayvon Martin who was killed after a possible racial profiling incident by George Zimmerna, a white Hispanic, in Sanford, FL.

Two More Polls Show Presumptive GOP Nominee Mitt Romney Leading President Obama Nationally

Trouble for Obama? Two more polls show presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney with a slight lead over President Obama.

Washington Times/JZ Analytics poll finds Mitt Romney edging President Obama nationally, 44% to 43%. The key finding from this poll is that  ”Obama is doing fine in most categories except young voters,  those under 30, with whom he only has a five percentage-point advantage over Mr. Romney.”

YouGov/Economist poll finds Romney ahead 46% to 42%. The poll shows most people are concerned about the economy, healthcare and taxes, not about same-sex marriage.

While I think it’s too early in the game to put stock in the polls, it’s interesting to note that neither candidate is ideal in the eyes of most Americans. It’s also ironic that the Washington Times polls finds Obama trailing Mitt Romney.

Richard Land Apologizes for "Racist Diatribe" Against Trayvon Martin, Black Leaders

Richard Land, the president of the Ethics and Religions Liberty Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, has apologized for comments he made about President Obama and black leaders.

USA Today:  ”I obviously overestimated the extent of progress that has been made in slaying the racial dragon of our past. I should have remembered that whenever we have a discussion about race, the ghosts of our ancestors are in the room with us. And I underestimated the need to be extremely careful in how you address any controversial issue that involves race as a factor.

I am grieved that anyone would feel my comments have retarded in any way the Southern Baptists’ march toward racial reconciliation, which I have been committed to for the entirety of my ministry, since 1962.

I certainly apologize to anyone who was hurt or offended by my remarks.”

Richard Land previously said President Obama “poured gasoline on the racialist fires” when he commented on the Trayvon Martin case. He also  referred to Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as a “mob” of “racial ambulance” chasers. He also said black men are “statistically more likely to do you harm than a white man.” He has yet to apologize for that comment.

What I don’t understand is how stupid people like Richard Land must think black Americans are. Um, on one hand you claim to be for inclusion and on the other hand you are fanning the flames of racial strife. Surely Mr. Land must realize he can’t have it both ways. If you are for inclusion, that means you can’t keep thrashing blacks and vice versa. Now he said his organization wants better relations with the black community. It’s really quite simply,  then don’t spew racist venom. The right wing evangelicals want to be free to dish it and want to force their views down the throats of everyone else.

Richard Land also issued an open letter of apology for his comments.

Virginia Man Steven John Gurczynski Facing Charges of Threatening to Kill President Obama

Steven John Gurczynski is facing charges of threatening to kill President Barack Obama. According to the Virginian-Pilot, a federal indictment unsealed this week charges Gurczynski, 40, of Roanoke with making the threats in November and December 2010.

According to court records, a concerned citizen told Roanoke police that Gurczynski was talking about Obama being the Antichrist and how he needed to kill him.

In an interview later with a Secret Service agent, Gurczynski said that God told him to “put a bullet in Barack Obama’s head and he considered it his duty to do so.” Source

Rep. Jim Jordan Compares Beating President Obama in General Election to Ending Slavery, Battling the Nazis

There are some morons masquerading are true representatives of their constituents in Washington D.C. According to Right Wing Watch, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) recently talked to Family Research Council president Tony Perkins at a recent FRC summit where Perkins asked the congressman how he viewed the increase in turnout of evangelical voters in the Republican presidential primaries. Jordan said that the energy among conservative Republican voters this election year is akin to Esther delivering the Jews of Persia from genocide in the Old Testament, the Founders defeating King George III, the Union Army in the Civil War ending slavery, overcoming the Great Depression and battling the Nazis. What? SMH

Jordan: There is an anxiousness that American feel about their country, they think there is just something not right and they feel this anxiousness, they know there are real concerns, a real change in direction, a real change from what we view and value of what America has always been so you are seeing people of faith step forward and participate in a big way, which is exactly what we want to see happen. I love the example of the teenage girl, and everyone in this audience knows this story but it’s so important to think about this, the teenage girl who saved her people and the best line in that narrative is when her relative said to her ‘Esther, maybe the only reason you’re at where you’re at is for such a time as this,’ and I think Americans get that, I think Christians get that, they understand, this is a critical time.

John Fund, I heard him give a speech and it’s interesting, and it kind of parallels what Senator Blunt said, he said it’s every third generation that has to do something big in this country. He started with the Founders who put it on the line, lost their lives and many of them lost their business, we remember Franklin, Jefferson and Adams but most of them lost everything, and then it was three generations later when we had this evil of slavery that Americans said ‘we will get rid of this and we will keep the union together,’ three generations later those people in America at that time said we can deal with the Great Depression and we can deal with the evils of Nazism in the Second [World] War and we can with that. And they did it. Now here we are three generations later and it is our turn. It is our turn to do what Esther did way back when, it is our turn to do what they did at the founding, and at the Civil War and at the Second War, it is our turn.  Source

Obama “National Defenses Resources Preparedness” Executive Order Doesn’t Mean Martial Law is Coming

The Tea Party wingnuts are screaming Martial Law over President Obama’s recent Executive Order, titled “National Defenses Resources Preparedness.” In a nutshell, it’s called preparedness. The reality is that this update of prior Executive Orders signed in 1988 and 1994, which elaborate similar powers in time of war or national emergency.  The Order signed in 1994 was not limited to national emergency:

The United States must have an industrial and technology base capable of meeting national defense requirements, and capable of contributing to the technological superiority of its defense equipment in peacetime and in times of national emergency.

While I don’t agree with everything President Obama is doing or has done, I wouldn’t say this Executive Order was an act of a dictator because of an expansion of presidential powers. Martial Law isn’t coming as a result of the National Defenses Resources Preparedness Executive Order. It’s just pure mischief to suggest that as a fact.

Ed Morrissey:  Why the update?  If one takes a look at EO 12919, the big change is in the Cabinet itself.  In 1994, we didn’t have a Department of Homeland Security, for instance, and some of these functions would naturally fall to DHS.  In EO 12919, the FEMA director had those responsibilities, and the biggest change between the two is the removal of several references to FEMA (ten in all).   Otherwise, there aren’t a lot of changes between the two EOs, which looks mainly like boilerplate.

In fact, that’s almost entirely what it is.  The original EO dealing with national defense resources preparedness was issued in 1939 (EO 8248) according to the National Archives.  It has been superseded a number of times, starting in 1951 by nearly every President through Bill Clinton, and amended twice by George W. Bush.

So, if Ed Morrissey, who seems to be more conservative than a moderate, could say there’s nothing that signifies Martial Law is coming, then why are some in the Tea Party and other conservatives, such as Kenneth Schortgen Jr., making hay out of nothing? The fact that this Executive Order is simply an update, with limited expansions due to new Cabinet positions and focuses on preparedness, then it’s just ridiculous to suggest he’s exhibiting traits of a dictator.

Rush Limbaugh Calls Obama “Boy President” in Between United Negro College Fund PSA

Rush Limbaugh denigrates President Obama by calling him a “boy president” on his radio show in between a United Negro College Fund PSA. Here’s the transcript from RushLimbaugh.com:

So, the Politico story, the headline: “Obama’s New Hurdle: Jobs Report Optimism — President Barack Obama has a new challenge with the jobs report due out Friday: rising expectations.” Oh, the poor guy. What a real challenge. “Several months of improving numbers filtered through an election-year prism have bolstered Obama’s standing — but also have fueled anticipation that the employment outlook will continue to improve. If new jobs aren’t added at the same rate, Obama’s political opponents will attack him for not doing enough to sustain the economy.” This is the Politico writing for a third grade anti-bullying class. Obama’s political opponents will attack him for not doing enough. “If they go up, he’ll almost certainly be slammed for the economy not improving enough. And if they tick down — or the unemployment rate rises — expect searing attacks about a president leading the country into a double-dip recession.”

Poor Obama. Boohoo! He just can’t catch a break. Even the news media talking up the economy for him might backfire on him. Oh, yeah! It’s so fraught with danger out there for Obama. Why, even if his sycophant, slavish media talk up the economy, that might backfire. Remember how the media fretted about all the problems of perception that President Bush faced? Right. We don’t, either. So obviously this piece in The Politico from which I was just reading was written before this morning’s unemployment report came out, and it is clear that the news media and the rest of the Obama campaign were sweating bullets over this number.

You remember how the media fretted about all the problems of perception that Bush faced? Poor Obama! He can’t catch a break. These venal Republicans, they’re just waiting to pounce on any uptick in the jobless rate! Those bullies. You notice that everything Republicans do is venal? Everything is calculated for political advantage? Everything is done to try to harm our little boy president, Barack Obama? The Republicans never have the country’s interests at heart like Obama does. In fact, this article sounds like the Obama campaign was using The Politico to tell their lickspittle minions in the news media to dial back their boosterism a little bit.

It sounds to me like this whole story is the White House calling Politico saying, “Hey, dial it back. We don’t want to make it sound too good out there! I mean, there are gonna couple of dips between now and Election Day. It can’t be that because we got this poll from Greenberg, don’t forget.” Stanley Greenberg, James Carville’s partner, big-time Democrat pollster, last couple of weeks puts a pull out and says: Mr. President, don’t go to town on this big story of a reviving, roaring-back economy because it isn’t going to work. They’re not feeling it. The reason a story based on a virtual economic recovery won’t work is because people are living in the economy.

When will Rush Turdbaugh get the boot? Seems like he thinks the heat is starting to cool off in the Sandra Fluke “slut” controversy.
