Rep. Jeff Landry (R-La.) "You Lie" Moment During President Obama’s Speech, Came in Form of a Sign Saying "DRILLING = JOBS"

“You Lie” moment during President Obama’s address to nation came from Rep. Jeff Landry (R-La.) holding up sign saying “DRILLING = JOBS.”

Lawmakers being disrespectful to President Obama, that’s a common occurrence coming from the Republicans towards the president. We just couldn’t watch a speech without a lawmaker being rude. Rep. Jeff Landry (R-La.) held up a sign that read: DRILLING = JOBS as the president spoke. Of course, he didn’t yell this out, like his colleague Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-SC) “You lie!” outburst, but this is disrespectful and unprecedented. Landry held the sign up when Obama acknowledged that Republicans might have ideas different from his $447 billion American Jobs package.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) found something to laugh about when President Obama said, “We’ve identified over 500 [regulatory] reforms, which will save billions of dollars.” Not only was far worst than the Joe Wilson “You lie” outburst because it shows how irrelevant the Republicans see the first black president. Some Democrats were also cool towards the president. Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) was seen reading a newspaper & Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. was seen staring at the ceiling.

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) Compares Health Care in America to the Holocaust

Here we go again. Another politician putting his foot in his mouth. This time Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) is under fire for describing the gist of the Rethuglicans health care plans as “die quickly” and he is not exactly backing down from claims he’s crossed the line of civility. Wait, the Republicans want an apology after all the nasty things they have said about President Obama and others? Do you remember Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-SC) “You lie” outburst during the president’s address to Congress? Well, Grayson had more vitriol ready to toss at the GOP.

On the floor, he called on members of the House to pass health care reform in the most extreme terms possible:

“I apologize to the dead and their families that we haven’t voted sooner to end this holocaust in America,” Grayson said.

Yeah, that will definitely ruffle some feathers. I am just sick and tired of all this back and forth nitpickiness on both sides of the aisle. The Holocaust is nothing to throw around lightly. Sorry, Rep. Grayson, you crossed the line, in much the same way as Joe Wilson did. You should apologize because the leadership told you so, then go out and raise some funds for your party! Seriously, that was in poor taste and just over the top.

Dean Allen, Candidate for South Carolina’s Adjutant General, Hosts "Machine Gun Social," Raffling Off Assault Rifle

South Carolina is in the news again.  Approximately 500 people showed up yesterday for the kick-off of Dean Allen’s candidacy for state adjutant general — $25 for barbecue and ammunition to take target practice with the weapon of their choice. There’s more. The sweepstakes for the assault rifle, reportedly the type used against U.S. troops in Vietnam, was thrown in at no charge.

Allen, 58, said the “machine gun social” was his way of celebrating the second amendment and showing solidarity against gun-rights opponents? Really Mr. Allen? Why does that sound like a barefaced lie to me? Considering South Carolina’s dubious track record of less than above-board politicians — Gov. Mark “The Adulterer and Liar” Sanford, Rep. Joe “You Lie” Wilson, for example. Allen is hoping that this shindig will net him some votes. Gee, I wonder if he ever stopped to figure out what type of extremists he will attract?

For those of you wondering about this office he is seeking, South Carolina is the only state that elects its adjutant general, who administers the Army and Air National Guard, the State Guard and the Emergency Management Division. Great, put a nut in such an important position.

Former President Jimmy Carter Says Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-SC) Outburst During President Obama’s Speech to Congress ‘Based On Racism’ (VIDEO)

While many will dismiss former President Jimmy Carter’s comments about race being a big factor in the treatment of President Obama, there is a lot of truth to his claims. Carter, who was responding to a question Carter was responding to a question submitted last night at a town hall held at his presidential center in Atlanta, said that U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst to President Barack Obama during a speech to Congress last week was an act “based on racism” and rooted in fears of a black president. He also said the outburst was a part of a disturbing trend directed at the president that has included demonstrators equating Obama to Nazi leaders.

“I think it’s based on racism,” Carter said at a town hall held at his presidential center in Atlanta. “There is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president.”

“Those kind of things are not just casual outcomes of a sincere debate on whether we should have a national program on health care,” he said. “It’s deeper than that.”

I don’t know Joe Wilson personally and I won’t call him a racist, but his comments add fuel to the fire being lit by the racist people in our country who hate President Obama because he is black. He has had some questionable associations with the Sons of Confederate Veterans group, which as the Southern Poverty Law Center said is being taken over by radical neo-Confederates who favor secession and defend slavery as a benign institution. Leading this takeover is a radical racist named Kirk Lyons, who’s been an important legal figure on the far right for some years. So, one has to really wonder what Rep. Wilson is really up to.

House Votes to Admonish Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) for "You Lie" Outburst During President Obama’s Address to Congress Last Week

The House has voted to admonish Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) over his “You lie” outburst to President Obama during his health care speech to Congress last week. The 240-179 vote, mainly along party lines with seven Republicans voting with the majority, marked the first time in the 220-year history of the House that a member had ever been admonished for such an outburst while the president was giving an address. Sorry, but this amounts to a slap on the wrist. He should have been censured.

Democrats insisted that Wilson take responsibility for what they said was a serious breach of decorum. Republicans characterized the vote as a political stunt. Right. As long as it’s coming from the other side of political aisle, the Rethuglicans will see it as a political stunt, much like the tone they are setting in the town hall meetings and at the protests held last weekend.

Here is the vote tally:
Demcrat: 233Y, 12N, 5Pres, 6Abs
Republican: 7Y, 167N, 0Pres, 4Abs
Total: 240Y, 179N, 5Pres, 10Abs

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) Yells Out "You Lie" When President Obama Says His Health Care Bill Won’t Mandate Coverage for Illegal Immigrants

Once again, the Republican Party shows that it has no class. During President Obama’s speech to a joint session of Congress tonight regarding health care reform, Republican Congressman Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) yelled out “lie” when the President said his health care bill would not mandate coverage for illegal immigrants. I can’t recall hearing any member of Congress interrupt President George W. Bush or President Bill Clinton during their address to Congress. Why should President Obama be continually subjected to such crass behavior at the hands of his opponents? We have lost all sense of decorum in this country. This is a travesty and this congressman is a disgrace.

I can’t recall hearing Rep. Wilson calling Governor Sanford a liar and a cheat when he left his office to go for a booty call in South America. Sen. John McCain, during an appearance on CNN after the president’s speech, said Wilson’s outburst was “totally disrespectful — [there’s] no place for it in that setting or any other and he should apologize immediately.” Now, that’s the John McCain I liked before the presidential campaign. First Lady Michelle Obama, overhead in the visitors’ gallery, shook her head from side to side. described the claims made by Rep. Joe Wilson as “false” and noted that one version of the legislation already includes an explicit bar on federal funding for illegal immigrants’ health care. There is an going viral, asking @CongJoeWilson to apologize for yelling “YOU LIE” in President Obama’s speech.

UPDATE #1: Joe Wilson is being challenged by Rob Miller for SC-02. You can donate to Miller’s ActBlue page here.

UPDATE #2: In less than two hours, challenger Rob Miller has raised over $11K. Joe Wilson is shaking like a leaf at the outrage being leveled at him and the prospect that this outburst could, and should, cost him reelection. He has issued the following apology:

“This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

UPDATE #3: True to form, Fox News stepped up to the plate and showed just have right wing they are. On Fox Business News, Karl Rove and host Neil Cavuto thought Wilson shouting at the President was hilarious. “Joe Wilson, good guy,” said Rove. “Lovely,” agreed Cavuto.

Sorry, but if he wasn’t called out on his despicable behavior, he would not have apologized. These are the bottom feeders who are making decisions for Americans. Time for this moron to go back to South Carolina!

UPDATE #4: It turns out that Joe Wilson was once a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans. According to Crooks and Liars, this is an organization that, as the SPLC has detailed assiduously, has been taken over in the past decade by radical neo-Confederates who favor secession and defend slavery as a benign institution. Leading the takeover is a radical racist named Kirk Lyons, who’s been an important legal figure on the far right for some years.

Joe Wilson, as a state legislator, was one of only seven Republicans to go against their own party and vote to keep the Dixie Rebel flag flying over the South Carolina capitol:

The flag came down that year after Republicans in both houses went for a compromise that would put it on Statehouse grounds at the Confederate Soldier’s monument. The “Magnificent Seven” of Senators who voted to keep the flag up included current Congressman Joe Wilson (who I served with in the 218th Infantry Brigade of the National Guard.)
