Unarmed Black Teen Kendrec McDade Killed by Police Acting on False 911 Tip from Oscar Carrillo

Another unarmed black teen killed. Oscar Carrillo of Pasadena, Calif., was arrested for making a fake 911 call, after police said his false armed robbery report led officers to shoot and kill Kendrec McDade, a 19-year-old college student, who they believed to be a suspect. Kendreck McDade was unarmed and was minding his own business when the cops accosted him. Much like Trayvon Martin, who was killed by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman.

Pasadena Police Chief Philip Sanchez said that a deadly chain of events was set into motion after officers responded to a 911 call claiming a laptop had been stolen by two armed men.

Caller Oscar Carrillo repeatedly told officers that two suspects were armed with handguns on Orange Grove Boulevard.

The phone call put officers on alert and led them to believe Kendrec McDade was armed when they saw him about two blocks from that location, Sanchez said. ‘The actions of the 911 caller set the minds of the officers,’ Sanchez said.

McDade ran from officers until an officer used the police cruiser to block McDade’s path in an alley and rolled down his window, Lt. Phlunte Riddle said.

McDade allegedly made a motion at his waistband and the officer opened fire. A second officer who was chasing McDade on foot also opened fire, Riddle said.

There are some really sick people in our midst. Even though the police acted on a false tip, did they really have to open fire immediately and kill the teen, just like that? He was unarmed and was no threat. Some people questioned why Trayvon Martin ran from George Zimmerman and why Kendrec McDade did the same thing instead of standing his ground and talking to the officers. Well, that response is rooted in decades of racial profiling of black males by the police. Parents, please talk to your sons and tell them what to say and how to act if they are stopped by the police. You don’t need to be rude. Identify yourself and above all, don’t run. Oscar Carrillo admitted to detectives that he made up the story about the gun to speed up the officers’ response to his call about the burglary. He was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of Kendrec McDade.

The Mercury News is reporting that the teen and an accomplice broke into an automobile and stole a laptop.

“Attorney Caree Harper (representing family of Kendrec McDade)  said an unidentified officer rolled down the window of his patrol car and fired at least one shot at the 19-year-old, while a second officer chasing on foot opened fire as well. The volley of as many as 10 shots killed McDade.”

That teen has been charged with two counts of commercial burglary, one count of grand theft and one count of failure to register as a gang member as a condition of his probation, the Mercury News reports. He is also still in custody.

President Obama Calls Trayvon Martin Murder a "National Tragedy" That Reminds Him of His Own Children

President Barack Obama weighed on the murder of unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin, calling it ” a national tragedy” and saying that it reminded him of his own children — Malia and Sasha Obama. Trayvon Martin had only a bag of Skittles in his pocket and a can of Iced Tea on him when he was gunned down by George Zimmerman.

“When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids,” Obama said in Rose Garden remarks. “And I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this. And that everybody pull together.

“But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,” Obama said. “All of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves.” Source: Politico

Yes, every parent, particularly black parents, should worry about their kids being gunned down by overzealous people. Of course, I am sure his critics will say this isn’t his dog fight, but how could anyone with an ounce of decency not feel for the parents of this teen, who was doing nothing wrong when he was murdered by a wannabe cop, George Zimmerman, thanks to the “stand down” law in Florida?

Dr. Boyce Watkins is asking if Trayvon Martin’s mother were white, would President Obama call her. Um, the president can’t call every one who has lost a child. This isn’t the first case in which an unarmed black teen was gunned down. He addressed the matter during his press conference today, what else should he do? Go to the rally? Come on people. We have to start taking a stand in our communities and not rely on the president to take that stand for us. If I am not mistaken, there have been instances in which whites were killed by blacks and I don’t recall hearing the same request from Boyce Watkins. For a college professor, he is really petty.
