Black couple, Charles and Te’Andrea Wilson, denied holding their marriage ceremony at predominantly white First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, Miss., after the pastor, Dr. Stan Weatherford, calls the day before their July 21st wedding to tell them it had been cancelled.
Fox 6 in Alabama reports that the couple had booked the church and distributed invitations only to find out that the church’s congregation had decided that the Wilsons, an African American couple, could not tie the knot in their church.
Charles Wilson told MyFoxAlabama, “The church congregation had decided no black could be married at that church, and that if he went on to marry her, then they would vote [the pastor] out the church.”
Still think there’s no racism in America? This is preposterous. Dr. Stan Weatherford performed the wedding at a nearby church. Um, why is he still a minister at that church? I would want no part of a church that discriminates against others. Why am I not surprised this happened in Mississippi. The church is the most segregated place in America. You take a look at the congregation in most cities on any given Sunday and you will see, most attend segregated churches. There are black churches, white churches and very few churches with mixed congregations.
