Rep. Todd Akin, Face of Republican Hypocrisy Towards Women, Releases Ad Begging Forgiveness (Photo credit: DonkeyHotey)

I must admit, I am loving the wrangling in the Republican Party where Rep. Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin is concerned. They say Obama is desperate, but I beg to differ. They are circling Todd Akin’s sinking boat like a bunch of sharks looking to score their next victim. The ‘gutless little twerp’ isn’t backing out of the race as many prominent Republicans are calling on him to do. I don’t think he should drop out because I believe Sen. Claire McCaskill, who has had dreadful poll numbers, will manage to eke out a win.

Akin released a new ad begging his constituents for forgiveness. Ahem, groveling. He said that he misspoke, but what part of his statement did he misspeak about and what part is he apologizing for? You see, his words match his voting record and the right-to-life bill he co-sponsored. So, did he suddenly have an epiphany that he hasn’t earned to right to dictate what a woman should and shouldn’t do? It’s hypocritical, to say the least, but he said what many Republicans have kept hidden for years. It’s a small wonder Mitt Romney’s side-kick, Paul Ryan isn’t coming under a missile attack for his position, but I suspect that missile will land in his lap during the debate.

“Rape is an evil act. I used the wrong words in the wrong way and for that I apologize. As the father of two daughters, I want tough justice for predators. I have a compassionate heart for the victims of sexual assault. I pray for them,” Akin says. “The fact is, rape can lead to pregnancy. The truth is, rape has many victims.”

Akin continues: “The mistake I made was in the words I said, not in the heart I hold. I ask for your forgiveness.” Source

Social conservatives are coming to Todd Akin’s defense in droves. People like Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins, American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer and others are salivating because they think he personifies the bullshit they believe in and spew about women. What’s next, the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, as Todd Akin claims needs a second look? Republicans like Todd Akin’s buddy Paul Ryan and others need to understand they have never walked in the shoes of a woman and haven’t earned the right to vote on legislation that affects women’s reproductive rights. When was the last time a man was pregnant? Um, the ‘pregnant man’ who is going through a divorce, wasn’t really a man. He was once a woman who kept her uterus and ovaries, so that doesn’t count. The reality is we now have a new person on the GOP presidential ticket — Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Ayn Rand and now Todd Akin, the latter tied to Paul Ryan.
