A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that 70 percent of Americans disapprove of House Republicans, with 51 percent strongly disapproving, over the government shutdown they engineered. President Obama’s approval rating went up due to strength from moderate Democrats and independents (a key group in any general election).

Washington Post: “Some 45 percent approve of Obama’s handling of budget negotiations, up slightly from 41 percent last week. A still larger 51 percent disapproves of Obama, with 39 percent of the public disapproving strongly. Obama’s fellow Democrats have not been as resilient. Fully 61 percent of Americans now disapprove of congressional Democrats (up from 56 percent last week),  with strong disapproval rising nine points (to 45 percent).”

It should be noted that the WaPo-ABC News also found women disapprove of Congressional Republicans 20-75 and non-whites disapprove 16-78, but of course, the Republicans don’t care about rebranding at this point. The party is also losing big among Americans making over $100K.

A Pew poll also found that Americans were placing the blame on the doorstep of the Republican Party in large numbers by a 38 to 30% margin to the Obama administration. Sen. Ted Cruz seems to believe this mess isn’t affecting his party. Sounds a lot by Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf , AKA Baghdad Bob, who kept saying that Saddam Hussein was still in charge of Iraq when all hell was breaking loose and his ‘esteemed’ leader was hiding in a rat hole.
