Unemployed woman Katherine Hackett introduced President Obama at White House event: ‘I am not just sitting at home living the good life.’

President Obama: “Voting for unemployment insurance helps people and creates jobs and voting against it does not.” He also said, “I can’t name a time when I met an American who would rather have an unemployment check than the pride of having a job.”
Of course, the Republicans are reframing this fight as the three-month extension clears the first hurdle. The Republicans want this to be a battle over how to pay for the extension, not over whether to extend them at all, Plumline reports. You know, that good old fiscal responsibility label they are trying to sew on their jackets. Only under the previous administration, they didn’t seem to care one iota about fiscal responsibility. How else can you explain the multiple unemployment insurance extensions granted during George W. Bush two terms?
