#SWV: Last night’s “SWV Reunited” season finale “Deal Breakers” (@WEtv) was as predictable and underwhelming. There was a ‘showdown’ with the group’s record label and Tamara ‘Taj’ George’s (@TajGeorge) husband, former NFL player Eddie George was considering taking a job in New York City, that would involve uprooting the family from Nashville. Then there is the everlasting ‘diva-ish’ behavior from Cheryl ‘Coko’ Clemons (@Only1Coko) about her gospel career and her solo aspirations. As usual it’s all about Coko and her needs.
The season finale also featured the group’s final stop on their tour at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. At least Leanne ‘Lelee’ Lyons (@LeleeLyons) didn’t bring any drama to the show. Boring!
In their heyday, SWV (Sisters With Voices) had a string of hits including “I’m So Into You,” “Right Here,” “Downtown,” and “Weak.” They sold over 15 million albums, earned Grammy, American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards nominations. They were virtually unstoppable. Well, until drama set in and they went their different ways.
SWV Reunited follows Lelee, Coko and Taj as they figure out if they can trust each other again, both on and off stage. I have no doubt that SWV made a tremendous contribution to R&B music, but I found the show weak. Yes, very weak.
I have to give some credit to Leanne ‘LeLee’ Lyons for always keeping it real. What you see is what you get with her. She just wants to work and isn’t into the drama like Taj and Coko seem to be. I don’t know if there will be a season 2, but season 1 pretty much did it for me. I was very pleased with the first two episodes, but then it just got trite and boring from then on. Maybe I am showing my age, but Cheryl ‘Coko’ Clemons’ diva-ish behavior and Tamara ‘Taj’ George’s constant screeching are just a bit much.
