Lupita Nyong’o won Best Supporting Female at Independent Spirit Awards for her portrayal of slave Patsy  in “12 Years a Slave.”

In her acceptance speech, Nyong’o said, “Independent film is where stuff actually happens.” She mentioned that it was her birthday and concluded her speech by thanking her mother.

Jared Leto won the Best Supporting Actor award for his portrayal of transgender AIDS patient Rayon in “Dallas Buyers Club.”

During his acceptance speech, Leto joked about the rumors that he and Lupita Nyong’o were dating. He reportedly said, “I want to thank all the women I’ve been with and all the women who think they’ve been with me… and my future ex-wife Lupita.”
