Wenjian Liu & Rafael Ramos ID’d as NYPD Cops Killed by Ismaaiyl Brinsley

BREAKING: @CommissBratton identified the assassinated officers as Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos. He said they may have never even seen their attacker. The shootings were a reprisal for the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. The officers were in a Critical Response Vehicle (CRV) because of the area they had been in.

Ismaaiyl Brinsley approached the patrol car on the passenger side. He took a shooting stance and fired on the car, hitting both officers in the head. The suspect fled and then ran into a subway station and took his life on the platform of the G train.

Brinsley had critically wounded his girlfriend earlier this morning in Baltimore. The Baltimore police learned Brinsley had a connection to Brooklyn. They notified the NYPD via fax, but it was too late.

The NY Daily News reports Ismaaiyl Brinsley may have had a connection to the “cop-hating” Black Guerilla Family.

One source said Baltimore police were already investigating Brinsley’s connection to the gang, which started in California’s San Quentin Prison in the 1960s by Black Panther member George Jackson.

“BGF has been talking about getting back at cops for Eric Garner and Ferguson,” a source told The News, citing intelligence intercepted in Baltimore area prisons.

Attorney General Eric Holder issued the following statement:  “This was an unspeakable act of barbarism… This cowardly attack underscores the dangers that are routinely faced by those who protect and serve their fellow citizens. As a nation we must not forget this as we discuss the events of the recent past… Our nation must always honor the valor – and the sacrifices – of all law enforcement officers with a steadfast commitment to keeping them safe.” — via @ZekeJMiller
