Walter Scott funeral
Rev. George Hamilton said the death of Walter Scott, who was shot in the back as he fled Patrolman Michael Slager, was the act of a racist cop.
Hamilton, the lead pastor at W.O.R.D. Ministries Christian Center, told the overflow congregation at the funeral, “All of us have seen the video. There is no doubt in my mind and I feel that Walter’s death was motivated by racial prejudice.”
Hamilton called Slager a disgrace to the Charleston Police Department. He said, “This particular cop was a racist. You don’t Tase a man and then shoot.”
Hamilton added “we will not indict the entire law enforcement community for the act of one racist.”
Walter Scott’s death sparked widespread outrage after he was stopped by Slager during a traffic stop last Saturday. His shooting death was captured on a cellphone video by bystander Feidin Santana.
