I ventured out to do a bit of celebrity watching on Saturday outside St. James United Methodist Church, the site of Bobbi Kristina Brown’s funeral. I was shocked to see Leolah Brown walk over to the reporters and tell them about the chaos that erupted during Bobbi Kristina’s service, saying she told Pat Houston that “Whitney is going to haunt Pat Houston from the grave.” Wow, this drama was totally uncalled for.
The feud between the Browns and the Houstons have been simmering for a long time and hit a high point when Pat Houston asked for donations to her charity in lieu of flowers for her deceased niece.
Leolah Brown was escorted halfway through the funeral service after interrupting Pat Houston as she delivered the eulogy. This blistering and shocking attack was totally unexpected and completely out of line. She was escorted out of the church by security and movie mogul Tyler Perry. Brown said the funeral “went wonderful until Pat started speaking.”
Brown told reporters, next to whom I was been standing, “It’s not over. I’ve got evidence of who Pat really is, this is going to be a long drawn out process.”
She added, “Things are connected.” “She is being the phony person that she is.” “She’s not a Houston, she’s a Garland.” She is married to Whitney Houston’s brother, Gary.
Brown also went after Nick Gordon, saying she was “angry at and what happened to my niece.” She also said Pat Houston had something to do with Bobbi Kristina’s death.
At the heart of the squabble is Bobbi Kristina’s $20 million inheritance from her mother and the “Sweet 16” theme of the funeral. Brown posted a Facebook rant asking her supporters “not to donate a red cent” to Pat Houston’s foundation for at risk children.
I met a young lady standing outside the church, who made an interesting comment. She said, “Anyone who didn’t do what Krissi wanted, she cut them off.” She said, this day, Bobbi Kristina’s funeral was a long time coming because of her upbringing and her lifestyle. She recalled visiting Bobbi Kristina at her mother’s home when she was 16 and that the teen had been drinking and eating popcorn. What’s sad, was that Whitney Houston had been in the home at the time of that incident.
