Autopsy shows 18-year-old Amonderez Green had gunshot wound under chin, police say he committed suicide.
The St. Louis county medical examiner autopsy shows 18-year-old Amonderez Green suffered a gunshot wound under his chin.
Green died early Thursday, hours after he ran during a confrontation with a Normandy police officer in which gunfire was exchanged.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Normandy police were called to a home in the 5800 block of Bermuda Drive on Wednesday to assist a “suicidal subject.” Attempts to calm the teen failed and he began shooting at the officers, who returned fire, the Normandy Police Department said. Cops also attempted to subdue him with a Taser, but that failed. The police said Green committed suicide “out of sight.”
Police say ballistic evidence confirmed the teen was shot with a round from a .38-calilber revolver. That was the same weapon the teen used when he was confronted by the officer.
Amonderez Green’s father, Jermell Simpson, questioned the Normandy police department’s version of the events. He dismissed the official story as a “total lie.” Simpson also uploaded a video on Instagram, saying, “I apologize for cussin’ but that’s the only damn son I got. When he started running, Ferguson [police] started shooting.” He blamed the shooting on the Ferguson Police Department.
