A Black Lives Matter activist, MarShawn McCarrel, committed suicide on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, on Monday, police say.
McCarrel posted on the Facebook page at about 3 p.m.: “My demons won today. I’m sorry.” His body was found near the statehouse thereafter, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
MarShawn McCarrel, 23, last tweet: “Let the record show that I pissed on the state house before I left.”
McCarrel, who helped to organize protests in Ohio following the shooting death of Michael Brown by then-police officer Darren Wilson, also founded a youth mentorship program, Pursuing Our Dreams.
He attended the NAACP Image Awards on Friday.
