Jeronimo Yanez has been identified as the officer in the Philando Castile shooting death in Falcon Heights, Minn., on Wednesday night. His attorney would not say if he has been interviewed by the police department.
Officer Joseph Kauser was with Yanez when he pulled over Castile for a broken tail light. Both officers, who have been with the St. Anthony Police Department for four years, have been placed on paid administrative leave.
Jeronimo Yanez was interviewed by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension: “Yanez approached Castile’s car from the driver side and Kauser from the passenger side. “At one point during the interaction,” the BCA said, “Officer Yanez discharged his weapon, striking Castile multiple times. No one else was injured. A gun was recovered at the scene.” “The BCA also said Diamond Reynolds, Castile’s girlfriend, and her daughter were taken to the Roseville police, where Reynolds was interviewed and later taken home,” the Star Tribune reports.
