Las Vegas Mass Shooting: House Republicans to Vote on Bill Loosening Gun Silencer Restrictions

House Republicans are set to vote on loosening gun silencer restrictions in the aftermath of the Las Vegas mass shooting, which is the deadliest in U.S. history.

Politico: “The Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act, introduced by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.), may come up for a House vote as early as next week. The Duncan legislation includes language revising federal regulations on silencers, which currently have tougher purchasing requirements than guns.”

The vote is reportedly scheduled for this week, but it remains to be seen if they will follow through. We know the Republicans are beholden to the National Rifle Association. This would be a financial windfall for the silencer industry.

The hearing was cancelled after Rep. Steve Scalise and others were shot during a Congressional baseball practice in Virginia by James T. Hodgkinson.

Many Twitter users have been blasting GOP lawmakers for their “thoughts and prayers” tweets after 50 people were killed and more than 400 injured after Stephen Craig Paddock fired on 30,000 people at an outdoor concert on the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday night.

How many more times do we have do go through a mass shooting at the hands of a lunatic who legally purchased high-powered assault weapons? Why are these weapons in the market in the first place? Police found more than 10 rifles in Paddock’s hotel room. Why? Why does one need that many rifles?
