ABC News confirms that the New York City terror attack suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov from Tampa. Police say eight people were killed and 15 injured in the attack near World Trade Center in lower Manhattan after he plowed into pedestrians while driving a Home Depot truck.
Saipov reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he tried to flee the scene before being apprehended by police. He was armed with a paintball gun and a pellet gun. He is hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.
NBC News reports that the suspect is an Uzbek national who came to the U.S. in 2010. At the time of his arrest, he was carrying a Florida identification card that listed a Tampa address. He also resided in New Jersey.
