As expected, Donald Trump defends accused wife beater Rob Porter because he “strongly said” he was innocent of the domestic violence allegations made by his two ex-wives, Colbie Holderness and Jennifer Willoughby. In other words, he just made the scandal a lot worse.
You will recall Donald Trump said the 19 women who accused him of sexual misconduct are lying. He also denied having an affair with porn star Stormy Daniels, even though $130,000 in hush money was paid to her on his behalf. He also defended accused child molester Roy Moore. There’s a pattern….
Here are Trump’s full comments about Rob Porter: “We wish him well, he worked very hard. We found out about it recently and I was surprised by it, but we certainly wish him well and it’s a tough time for him. He did a very good job when he was in the White House.”
“And we hope he has a wonderful career and he will have a great career ahead of him. But it was very sad when we heard about it and certainly he’s also very sad now.”
“He also, as you probably know says he’s innocent and I think you have to remember that. He said very strongly yesterday that he’s innocent so you have to talk to him about that, but we absolutely wish him well, he did a very good job when he was at the White House.”

Um, yeah, that cleans it up a lot. Of course I’m being sarcastic. Not one mention of the victims, which now includes the live-in girlfriend he ditched for White House communications director Hope Hicks.
I have to ask, what more do people like Trump, Sen. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee want to see? A dead body, since the pictures of Porter’s first wife, Colbie Holderness with a black eye and a bruised face mean nothing to them.
Willoughby gave an emotional and powerful interview on CNN’s AC360 last night, during which she said Porter tried to get her to down play the abuse during their marriage and to take down a 2014 blog post in which she detailed her experiences.
If you aren’t disgusted by Donald Trump, John Kelly and the people around him, as well as the Republican Party that enables Trump, then there’s no hope for you. He has defecated all over the office of the presidency and what it stands for. This is totally un-American.
Reaction on Twitter:
I have been in prison interviewing a serial killer so help me: why did President Trump not even acknowledge the alleged victims in the #Porter #domesticviolence situation? Not even a nod to the woman with the black eye?

Trump holds himself out as tough on crime. Aside from his attacks on the FBI, he has also: pardoned convict Joe Arpaio, defended white supremacists after a murder, campaigned for an accused sexual assaulter of children, and, now, expressed sympathy for an accused domestic abuser.

Dear @realDonaldTrump: A vase doesn't magically hit Porter's ex-wife by itself. You saw the photos. Also, domestic violence is a crime.
The statements you just made are very sad. https://t.co/DqISf4V350
