Four NYPD officers confronted Vassell after receiving 911 calls about a man possibly holding a gun. It turns out Vassell, who is bipolar, was holding a pipe.
Police Chief Terence Monahan said that Vassell “took a two-handed shooting stance and pointed an object at the approaching officers.”
Vassell was killed after 10 rounds were discharged from the four officers.
