Dallas cop Amber Guyger was charged with manslaughter for the shooting death of black accountant Botham Shem Jean after mistakenly entering his apartment.
Guyger was booked into the Kaufman County Jail at 7:20 p.m. on Sunday on a manslaughter charge. She is expected to be released later Sunday night after posting a bond of $300,000, WFAA reports.
Guyger fatally shot Jean, who grew up in St. Lucia, after she finished her shift and returned to the upscale apartment nearby. It is not clear how she gained entry to Jean’s apartment but the two had a confrontation. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital Thursday night.
The Dallas Police Department handed off the case to the Texas Rangers. Guyger’s blood was drawn for alcohol and drug testing. Guyger was also involved in another shooting a year ago. She has been on the force for four years.
Botham Shem Jean worked as an analyst for PricewaterhouseCoopers. He graduated from Harding University in Arkansas. He was also very active in his church.
