Former BET host Ed Gordon tweeted that he was “disappointed” President Barack Obama didn’t attend Aretha Franklin’s funeral, though many others, including Oprah Winfrey, Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick, Anita Baker, Jay-Z and Beyonce didn’t attend either. Gordon’s not coming for them. He’s going after the Obamas.

Gordon tweeted:  “I have nothing but respect 4 Barack Obama, however I can have disappointment with him at times. BTW, I’m allowed to own my feelings. I still would have liked 2 have seen him at Aretha’s funeral. Expressing disappointment that head was not there is not dissing him. Come on people!”

Gordon initially tweeted: “Watching Barack Obama at John McCain’s funeral, I confess a bit of disappointment that Mister Obama didn’t (couldn’t) attend Aretha’s funeral. And if he truly couldn’t attend her funeral why not visit one of the other days she lay in rest?”

Why do people feel they have a right to tell private citizens Barack and Michelle Obama what they should do? It’s very possible the Obamas had a prior commitment and could not attend. Furthermore, it would have been a logistical nightmare for him to show up with a ton of Secret Service agents on top of those who accompanied Bill and Hillary Clinton.

I’m sure President Obama spoke with Ms. Franklin’s family and if they’re not bitching on Twitter and to the media, then why the hell is Ed Gordon trying to start some mess? It wasn’t enough that Rev. Al Sharpton read a statement from President Obama at the funeral. He has to tweet his “disappointment” at not seeing Obama sitting through the eight-hour service.

By the way, as President Obama stated during his eulogy at McCain’s memorial, the senator had personally contacted him months ago about speaking at his funeral. I’m sorry Ed Gordon feels that Obama should have the power of clairvoyance to ascertain when someone is going to die and if it’s a black celebrity, he or she takes precedence over a senior elected official.

Well, Twitter wasn’t having Ed Gordon come for Barack Obama on these shaky grounds:
