French President Emmanuel Macron shames Donald Trump to his face during a ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I: “Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism by saying our interests first, who cares about the others.”
Macron said “patriotism is the opposite of nationalism.” “By saying our interests first, who cares about the others, we erase what a nation holds dearest, what gives it life, what makes it great and what is essential: its moral values.””I know there are old demons which are coming back to the surface. They are ready to wreak chaos and death,” Macron said. “History sometimes threatens to take its sinister course once again.”
The smackdown comes as Trump has proudly proclaimed he’s a nationalist and not a globalist. A majority of American presidents would have never made such a comment because we cannot stand alone and ignore the world. Trump is trying to reinvent a term that is synonymous with white supremacy.
Donald Trump’s path to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was paved with racism every step of the way. He called black female reporter Yamiche Alcindor as a racist when she asked him if he wasn’t concerned that the word nationalist is connected to white supremacy. He turned around and called her a racist.
Trump’s trip to Paris has been a complete disaster, just like all his other overseas trips — United Kingdom, Helsinki summit, summit with Kim Jong Un, Davos, G-20 summits, etc. Trump sparked outrage on Saturday when he nixed visiting a WWI cemetery to honor the fallen soldiers because it was raining. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Macron made the trip by car. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also paid respects to the fallen Canadian soldiers at another memorial. Instead, Trump was holed up in his hotel room watching Fox News and rage tweeting.

Then a picture surfaces of Macron and Merkel having some alone time. Trump didn’t bother showing up for that either. America has ceded its place as the world leader as a result of Donald Trump and his isolationist views. The leader of the free world isn’t America.
Trump wanted to have a military parade for Veterans Day, but it was nixed after condemnation over the cost to soothe his fragile ego.
