Federal agents raided the city hall office of Chicago Alderman Ed Burke, who handled Trump Organization property tax issues in Illinois for 12 years. He has been an alderman since 1969.
It is unclear if the raid is related to Donald Trump, but comes on the same day his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the company’s Moscow project.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports Burke, who is a Democrat, did work for Trump through his law fire, Klafter & Burke, for years. The firm “repeatedly sought to reduce the property taxes that Trump Tower and other commercial properties have to pay.”
Rep.-elect Jesus “Chuy” Garcia had previously called out Ed Burke because he did “property-tax appeal work on the riverfront tower that bears” Trump’s name. Garcia also said Burke’s work for Trump was “disrespectful to his Hispanic constituents,” the Sun-Times reports.

I’m at alderman Ed Burke’s City Hall office where feds reportedly raided this am and appeared to have covered the office with paper. Burke recently cut ties with Trump after working closely for 12 yrs and helped to cut property taxes on his Chicago Trump tower by more than 14 mil pic.twitter.com/uixxPgacWq
