Finnish President Sauli Niinistö denies he told Donald Trump that “raking forest floors” prevent fires in his country. Trump made the claims while standing next to California Gov. Jerry Brown and Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom as he surveyed the devastation left by fires in Paradise.
Trump said, “You look at other countries where they do it differently, and it’s a while different story.” “I was with the president of Finland, and he said, ‘We have a much different — we’re a forest nation.’ He called it a forest nation.”
“And they spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things, and they don’t have any problem. And when it is, it’s a very small problem. So I know everybody’s looking at that to that end.”
Niinistö said he told Trump, “We take care of our forests.” “I mentioned [to] him that Finland is a land covered by forests and we also have a good monitoring system and network,” Politico reports.
Of course, most people already knew Trump lied when he made the claims. If he’s tweeting or talking, he’s lying. He’s lying about things that are easily fact-checked.
Twitter erupted into mockery over Trump’s claims about raking forest floors to prevent wildfires using the hashtag
