In a surprise upset, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries beats Rep. Barbara Lee in the race for Democratic Caucus chair. He won 123-113. This is a huge deal because Lee was thought to be the favorite until Jeffries threw his hat in the ring.

Can you say Brooklyn in the house? I was actually rooting for Lee, but Hakeem Jeffries is good too. Jeffries is a rising star in the party and could very easily be groomed to be a future House Speaker. He now moves up to the No. 5 leadership spot.

Reaction on Twitter:
I asked Hakeem Jeffries why ageism didn’t have anything to do with him winning, considering he continues to make a case for “generational change.”
In a non-answer answer, Jeffries said everyone made their own assessment as to why they voted the way they did.
