Stacey Abrams campaign says “we don’t accept the Secretary of State’s office declaring Brian Kemp the winner” of the Georgia’s governor’s race. This comes as Kemp and outgoing Gov. Nathan Deal held a joint press conference and are moving ahead with transition plans.
Kemp also resigned as Secretary of State effective at 11:59 pm on Thursday. He resigned ahead of a hearing in federal court that sought to have him removed. In other words, Kemp stayed on as Secretary of State when he could influence the process.
During a press call on Thursday, Stacey Abrams campaign said there are 22,000 outstanding provisional ballots and 3,000 outstanding mail ballots and only 23,800 votes would push the race into recount territory.
