Twitter slams Donald Trump for standing with the Saudis, smearing journalist Jamal Khashoggi and undercutting our intelligence agencies: “Helsinki all over again,” one lawmaker tweeted.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen tweeted that “Trump’s habit of siding with murderous foreign dictators over American intelligence professionals is a stain on our democracy that undermines the American ideal.”

Trump issued an exclamation-marked statement saying that it’s about America’s relationship with Saudi Arabia and offered no punitive measures for Khashoggi’s murder. He wrote that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman “maybe did or maybe didn’t know” about the murder. The statement is also filled with lies…but that’s for another discussion.

Trump smeared Khashoggi by saying that some in Saudi Arabia viewed him as an “enemy of the state,” a term which he has used to attack the U.S. media. He also pushed the conspiracy theory that Khashoggi was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
