Sen. Kamala Harris launches a 2020 presidential campaign, For the People, on MLK Day, as she joins what is expected to be a crowded Democratic field.

Harris made the announcement during an appearance on Good Morning America. There were many signs that she was going to make a White House bid starting with her new book, The Truths We Hold, which chronicles her life. She is a daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India.

Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (a very, very long shot) have already announced their presidential bids.

Donald Trump’s trainwreck of a presidency has led to women taking a bigger role in politics. The largest group of women ever were elected during the 2018 midterm elections.
