Greenpeace claps back at Donald Trump after he claimed their co-founder Patrick Moore said the climate crisis is fake news: “He was not a co-founder but a paid lobbyist.” In other words, Moore is a useful idiot for Trump.
Greenpeace tweeted: “Patrick Moore was not a co-founder of Greenpeace. He does not represent Greenpeace. He is a paid lobbyist, not an independent source. His statements about @AOC and the #GreenNewDeal have nothing to do with our positions.”
Trump repeated what he heard on Fox & Friends, tweeting: “Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace: The whole climate crisis is not only Fake News, it’s Fake Science. There is no climate crisis, there’s weather and climate all around the world, and in fact carbon dioxide is the main building block of all life.”

“Phil Cotes, Irving Stowe, and Jim Bohlen founded Greenpeace in 1970. Patrick Moore applied for a berth on the Phyllis Cormack in March, 1971 after the organization had already been in existence for a year. A copy of his application letter and Greenpeace’s response are available here (PDF),” according to a statement on Greenpeace’s website.
Of course, Patrick Moore is trending on Twitter and he and Trump are getting ripped to shreds:

Perfect example of the toxicity of the Trump-Fox News feedback loop. Climate denier gets on Fox & Friends and literally calls research on climate change “Fake News” and “Fake Science,” which Trump then accepts as fact and tweets out to his followers. https://t.co/Pny1tztuMf https://t.co/uVrYtuwsHW

Context on that Trump climate science tweet. Greenpeace said in 2010 that Patrick Moore "did not found Greenpeace," does not rep them and says Moore "has been a paid spokesman for a variety of polluting industries for more than 30 years." h/t @MicahGrimes https://t.co/SHrgd84eUI

Of note: @Greenpeace adamantly denies he is a co-founder or speaks for the group. As evidence, they have posted his letter of application a year after the group came into existence. https://t.co/vWdxGcJvgy https://t.co/JvYNjDFoWw
