John McCain’s former adviser Mark Salter shades Donald Trump over his fixation on his former boss during an interview on NPR’s Morning Edition: “I don’t know, I’m not a child psychologist.”
“We have an unfit man in the most powerful office on Earth and we need to do something about it,” Salter said about Trump’s continued attacks on McCain, who has been dead for about seven months.
Salter was asked what is going through Trump’s mind about McCain. “I don’t know. I’m not a child psychologist… he’s unfit for office,” he replied.
“The problem isn’t Trump’s disrespect to John and his family — it’s Trump,” Salter told the New York Times. “He’s unfit for the office, and most members of Congress know he is. I hope this latest evidence of that convinces more people that he can’t be ignored,” he continued.
While delivering a speech at a military tank plant near Lordstown, Ohio, on Wednesday, Trump railed against McCain, saying, “I gave him the kind of funeral he wanted” and “nobody thanked me.” Of course, Trump lied. He played a small role in Sen. McCain’s funeral and wasn’t even invited.
Trump was not invited to Sen. McCain’s funeral and had to be publicly shamed to lower the flags at half-mast following McCain’s death.
