Basket of Deplorables: #IStandWithErica trends on Twitter after black Georgia state lawmaker Erica Thomas says a white man told her to “go back where you came from” while she was in the check-out line at a Publix supermarket in Cobb County.

The video of Thomas, who is nine months pregnant, tearfully recounting the encounter with this man has gone viral, with many slamming Donald Trump for fomenting racial tensions with his attacks on people of color.

Thomas also posted a tweet about the racist attack: “Today I was verbally assaulted in the grocery store by a white man who told me I was a lazy SOB and to go back to where I came from bc I had to many items in the express lane. My husband wasn’t there to defend me because he is on Active Duty serving the country I came from USA!”

Trump told Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley that they should “go and fix the crime-infested places from which they came” in a series of racist tweets. Then his racist mob chanted “send her back” when he attacked Rep. Omar during his rally in Greenville, NC.

WSB-TV interviewed Eric Sparkes, the man, who had the altercation with Thomas. She says he’s lying. He admits he called her a “bitch.” He says he’s not racist and is Cuban, not white.
